Need a bit of basic advice here...

I recently bought a 68 El Camino with the interior in pretty good restored shape for a daily driver, EXCEPT the lack of a driver's side armrest.

No guide holes are present where the armrest mounts.

I've acquired the correct base, pad, and screw kit.

My question is...

Are there specific mounting points or brackets of any kind underneath the door panel?

Or do I simply mount the armrest in the correct position based on the door handle?

I'm worried if I do that without knowing what I'm doing the screws will get in the path of the window or window mechanism.

I suppose I could be removing the door panel to get a clue, but thought I'd throw this question out there as well.

Many thanks.

The handles come out of the front of the bases. When I get a chance I'll measure how far the handles goes into the base

You should also have existing screw holes in the door frame under the panel and the replacement screws will not interfere with the window glass.

Thanks for the replies...

So for clarification, it sounds as if the procedure is to remove, or at least partially remove, the door panel to line the armrest up with the holes in the door frame.

Sound right?
