: any plans for Illinois Cruises
Elkyone 03-24-2010, 06:56 AM Just wondering if anyone knows of any cruises coming up that we could have a few Elkys at? there should be enough of us to cruise somewhere right? of course there doesn't seem to be much going on in this region at least on the sites page.
theelcaminofactory 03-24-2010, 09:14 AM Hi Dave, I think Region 10 has pretty much fallen off the face of the earth...but if you haven't figured it out already search the forums specifically for Region 10 for any updates on cruises---> http://www.elcaminocentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=41 You can also try using Hemmings calender of events---> http://www.hemmings.com/calendar/?op=query&listing_date_start=2010-03-24&listing_date_end=2010-09-24&location=IL&category_id=4&sort=location_state&submit_find=Search

All Regions have Mike! I try to check in every day but find little interest in the site anymore.
I don't know why exactly but it like everything suddenly changed here. I think that is why most of those I used to come here to hang out with have gone silent.
Even the Mods who used to post regular are absent from posting unless breaking someones balls. All seem to be pretty testy, gues with the changes in the general attitude here on ECC.
After I lost my desination and could no longer post pictures in my album unles I now pony up cash for a feature hat was once free it has lost it's home like feel here.
Sorry for te rant.
Think I'll post my Elky for sale and move on to something les stressful.
Elkyone 03-25-2010, 07:18 PM I've been thinking the same thing, it just seems like people have lost interest I'm on another car club site (Mustang) and they do seem to chat about stuff alot. but it really seems to be getting very quiet like a ghost town with the lonely visitor every now and then.
at least there are a few left:You_Rock:
Cabamino 06-15-2010, 08:42 AM I'm one of the ones that hasn't been on in months.... Got let go from my job a few years ago and was glad to find another one even though I took a cut in pay. The El Camino has become my daily driver. The paint is getting ratty enough that I don't go to cruise nights anymore. Priorities change, you do what you gotta do. Elkyone, we met at the Rolling Meadows cruise a few years ago, you had the Nova, right? -jerry
Keyser Sose 06-15-2010, 10:38 AM Hey elkyone, not sure how far this is for you to get to, but here is a GREAT place to take a cruise to on fri nite or sat afternoon/eve.
Go to Huntley, ILL. It's on Rt 47, just north of I-90, also 1st town south of Woodstock, ILL. As you're going north thru town, just past the big dairy plant (has blue and white signs/logo, but forgot its name) on your right side is an old fashioned (food) drive-in. It has been there since the early 50s, still owned by the same family. They make their own ice cream, buy local meats, and the food and prices are FANTASTIC!!! 32 flavors of sundaes/shakes/malts. Awning and outside tables. You cannot sit there at a table and NOT catch yourself lookin for Milners deuce to come cruisin by! This drive-in WAS at one end of the cruisin circuit back in the day. Sunday afternoon is a great time to go too. Hot cars and bikes are always hangin there.
While you're there, keep your eyes open, as this is also one of those scarce areas that is FULL of english motorcycles. LOTS of old Triumphs, BSAs, and Nortons around Huntley.
I lived in ILL most of my life, and this is one of those "local jewels" that you stumble across once in awhile. Go check it out.

Keyser Sose 06-15-2010, 10:45 AM Another really great cruise, but better to take a whole weekend for, is to go over to the west side of the state along the Mississippi river, starting on the ILL side just south of Burlington, Ia. catch Rt 96 and follow it along the big muddy all the way to st louis. LOTS and LOTS of great places to eat fish/frog legs, and many little fairs/festivals along the way in the summer. Is always about 10-15 degrees cooler running in the shade under the big trees along the river too. One of my fav weekend cruises.
:poke:
nitroxracer78 06-15-2010, 03:17 PM I am also looking for something to do with some El Caminos. I did get to see a few a couple of weeks ago, but it was not coordinated. I knew some of the guys with El Caminos that usually go to a cruise in St. Charles, but it's a pre-83 cruise and they are very serious about that.

If it is the one I remembr from the 70's when we lived in Wi. it was Dog-n-Suds! We would always time our trip to stop for lunch there!
BTW The family car was a 1969 Big Block 4 speed Chevelle at that time!
Elkyone 08-08-2010, 05:07 PM sorry Jerry for not replying I didn't get a notice for this post and just happen to chek today, yes we did go to show but I have since sold the Nova and I do miss it, that was a great running car. Monday I'm heading up to Higgins and Barrington about 5:30 for a show its 1 light east of barrington. Mitch is planning on meeting me there with his Elk and there is a new guy from Chicago that we are trying to get out there also. it would be great if you could join us, I have made some changes to teh Elky
Elkyone 08-08-2010, 05:11 PM Papa your probably not anywhere near Hoffman Estates are you? Nitroxracer and myself are planning on meeting at the one on higgins and barrington and I'm trying to get another couple of guys to meet there also
FirstElky 11-04-2010, 05:38 PM I just got my first Elky and would love to meet some of you fellow Illinois owners. The season is pretty much over now, but spring and next summer I want to be cruising with a some other owners. I have an 87 (just learned from this site it is 5th generation) and am busy learning all the terms and other things about El Caminos. I started attending a local cruise this summer and decided I wanted to be in the cruise instead of parking and walking to the cruises to see the cars. I am in north side of Chicago.
Elkyone 11-04-2010, 05:54 PM welcome to the site and congrats on the new Elky... I have parked mine and may sell it in the spring but who knows at the moment. last couple of years they had a cruise and show for stabil which last time I went the cars really weren't all together in the cruise not organized like the woodward dream cruise in royal oak Mi we go every year we didn't drive in it this year but whoi knows about next. its the largest cruise which had approx 35000 classics crusing the 17 miles route and over a million people attended usually around the 20th of august but if you interested in thta look up woodward dream cruise for more info.
I'm out in Hoffman Estates

Are you taking about the Dairy-Mart?! We used to go there all the time when my dad was working down the street at Freund International.
71andyp 07-08-2011, 09:19 PM I go to Morris, Illinois for their cruise nights. I was there in June and there were 5 or 6 El Caminos with a total of about 600 plus cars and trucks. They do their cruise nights once a month for 4 months (June, July, August & September) and the next cruise night is July 9th Saturday from 6pm to 9pm, Entry closes at 8 p.m. I get there between 4pm and 5pm. Any classic car owner can participate. Registration fee is $10.00, car owners can display their cars on Liberty Street in downtown Morris. No rain dates.
