Hi, my name is Vidar and I'm from the Northern part of Norway, approx 700 Km north of the arctic circle. I just bought a 76' El Camino Classic which had been stoved away in a garage since 2001. It has been modified with a 73' SS grille, and is quite rusty.

Back in the 80s I had a 75' El Camino SS with a supercharged Big Block, and I have always regretted that I sold it. This will be a nostalgic project.

I have started to disassemble the car, and will probably have the chassis of the frame by the end of the week. The chassis had some rust in the floor, but it could have been worse. The frame is rusted pretty bad some places.

I have some other projects going on as well so it will not be on the road until next year I guess.:smileyb:

Norway! I looked it up on the map, it's next to Sweden - how cool is that! I've seen posts from all over, I think the last one I noticed was from Sweden - or maybe it was Switzerland; anyway, welcome to the club, and glad to have you! Looks like you have a good challenge in your project (boy, I know how that is!), and we look forward to more pics.

I'll guarantee that the only monstrous about this car will be under the hood:twisted:
The car came from Sweden in 1979, it was probably sold new in Sweden.

Bulkhead looking good:

Behind the dashboard was also free of rust:

The Corvette lifting straps was a perfect match:

I don't think the Corvette body dolly will fit, so I guess I'll need to build a new one

Should this thread be posted somewhere else on the El Camino Central?

Love the whole 'lift' thing!! I wish I had something like that... hmmm.... a point to ponder for later.

Thanks for the pics, and man, you are gettin' busy with that ride!

The sidepipes just caught my eye, in the frame-off photos. How cool is that!?! Sidepipes aren't for everyone, but I had a pair on a 73 chevelle back in the day, and I thought they were a lot of noisy fun. They were pointed at a 45 degree to the ground, which was even more fun, 'cause as you were romping it, all kind of debris and dirt and stuff would fly off the road as I howled into the distance... I've even considered putting a pair on my '68, and since I'm not putting headers on my ride, it would be a lot easier to 'get there' than what they had to go through in this pic. Hmmm. Burn's on the calves... it's been awhile since I had one of those! Are you going back with sidepipes?

Are you going back with sidepipes?
I'm not sure if I'm going to use those pipes, last time I had sidepipes it made to much noise. Did you notice the interesting 2 x 90 degree connections from the collector to sidepipe?

i sooooo wish you lived in the states with that elk, in case you decided not to use the side pipes cause i would eat that up! i love the look of side pipes. and since your elk is a 76 it wouldnt be to hard to do.:dontknow:

Yea, the 'collectors' really caught my eye... interesting. I'm sure the air flow was, um, a bit 'restricted', eh? Oh well, whoever did it 'got it done'.

I am 98% set on the dynomax 71" for my 68 project. The rumble of sidepipes is just too attractive for me to pass up, and price wize, I end up about the same place as a full dual setup. I've been shopping them since seeing your pic, I was on the fence about sidepipes before, but I'm off it now. With manifolds, I can make a nice sweep to the sidepipes, keep it simple, and get the rumble I'm looking for, a-la shelby cobra 427.

I had original sidepipes on a 69' Corvette once, they where connected to manifolds (2,5" outlet). The headers is to long to get a practical connection.

The original color on the car is Firethorn, anybody has a picture of a car with that color? I should be dark red I guess.

Could it be the furthest N Elky? I guess Santa upgraded his sleigh to a BB.

Welcome Vidar!
You are going to be doing what I did last year, with a body off (and on-going) project.
The Firethorn red color was on three of my vehicles, and is on my '74 Malibu. My El Camino project is going to be that color also.
I guess you could say that I like that color!!
Good luck with the rust fixing. It's a lot of work.

Norway...very beautiful...but No way...was up in the Fjords in the early 90's doing Ops with US Navy Amphibious Forces...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr froze my butt off. Tears froze, snot froze, mustache froze...-68 degrees. Where do you drive an Elky there? Welcome to ECC Vidar!
