After removing the oil temperature switch as pictured, I purchased a replacement that doesn't fit. I went to NAPA and Advance where I got the same wrong part. The replacement part is bigger and doesn't fit under the distributor cap space. The threads are the same, the replacement part is wider and higher than the part I removed yet it's the part that's supposed to fit a 350? Could the problem be that I don't have the original manifold? Its got me and the parts guys baffled.

Thanks for any help.

The sending unit for a gauge car and a car with idot light are different.
If a gauge car its located on the oil filter casting.

Which do you have?

Gauge car. The switch screws into the top of the engine near the distributor.

You can use an 1/8" npt 45 or 90 degree brass fitting with a short nipple to aim the sender away from the distributor. Should have em at NAPA.

Screw it in up front, just above the timing gear cover on the right side, this will be true oil pressure through the engine, its the last stop before the oil pan:beer:

Anyone have the part number for the choke light switch, not the oil pressure switch? None of parts places show it, the local Chevy dealer "thinks" they found it but I won't know until Tuesday.

Thanks for everyone's help, I picked up and installed the part and all is well now, including the clock that suddenly started working! I attached photos of the part number from the box and the actual new Delco part (made in Taiwan) that was easier to install than the original thanks to that nut on top of the new part for anyone else who might need it.
