So I got a lot of stuff I want to do to my Cab, and I don't even know where to start. Clinking on the link below will give you a few pics. I want it to be able to show it off as well as use it as a daily driver. So would you guys suggest starting on the interior or the exterior? Here's a short list of what I want to do...

Fiberglass Bed Lid
Camaro Nose Conversion
2" or 3" Cowl Hood (can't decide)
Rear Rollpan (with license cutout)
Smooth out the tailgate and the entire back end
Shave off the antenna and replace it with a windshield antenna

Replace entire dash
Replace carpeting
Reupholster seats
Replace door panels
Replace pillars and such

Man, that's a lot of stuff to do. Any suggestions?

Definitely do the outside first

If you are changing colors you will want the inner door and jams painted also....which would expose any new interior to potential damage

you can remove the old door panels/pillars/carpet/mouldings and get it cleaned up and ready while driving it, but I wouldn't put new back in until the body has been sanded, primered, sanded again, painted, wet sanded, buffed, waxed, and moved in and out of the body shop by a guy with dust all over him, and you dont want to scuff the body removing the old interior- get my drift????

you could remove the windshield before paint to get the pillars real good

The biggest thing is decide what YOU want & make a plan. I would replace the things that need it most like worn carpet, seats etc. Make sure the mechanicals is in top running condition, then go from there.

Don't worry about the inside until your finished with the outside and engine/drivetrain. You'll end up getting it all cruddy inside and its just more to do than necessary. Seats and carpet last thing.

Consider the height of the scoop your looking at. Make sure it is not so bit that it blocks your view, unless your just planning on driving 1/8th to 1/4 Mi at a time, in a straight line.

So I would suggest that you take care of any underside work first, then the body and then engine and drivetrain and finally the inside. Look at Lauren Engineering for a lot of the parts you are looking at installing also Custom Classics and either the El Camino Store or EC Parts.

Make a list of the parts and pieces your replacing or adding or whatever, prince them at several different places, check to see if they give a NECOA discount also.

Store sections of hardware in coffee cans marked for the assemble or section your working on or removed them from. Label the wires you remove or take loose. Take lots of pictures of several different angles of each assembly and then during the disassembly and re-assembly take pictures. These are proof for the next owner of the work as well as keep receipts for everything. Wait until you are completely finished with the project before you decide to sell or trash anything you removed or replaced.

I've done several projects and this is some of the things I have learned that are needed or "must do" to make it as easy as possible. The cans can also be filled with solvent for cleaning up the dirty crap that you are going to put back on. Don't want any dirty stuff mixed in with the new clean stuff it makes the work you do look cheap.

Just a thought.

All the above tips are great! Just remember to work within your budget and tackle one job at a time.

Fiberglass Bed Lid
Gaylord is the way to go. It totally changes the look of the vehicle. The fit is great and the installation is fairly simple. When your ready for this phase let me know and I post some picture of a great third brake light install for the lid. Good luck and take your time...
