Image Station pics (http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=4287408075) of the 78 El Camino I'm trying to buy. From the pics, what would you say it's worth ???

Check out the competition on Evil Bay, dude. There's a number of 5th Generation El Camino's, Caballero's, Choo Choo's (even a 1985 "Conquistador"!) ranging from $7,000 down to around $3,000. There's some real bargains every now and then, if you're willing to travel around and you're serious about it: I saw an 80 El Camino in San Francisco go for $810 the other day - granted it was beat to hell, but it ran and if it had sold for a little less (like around $500) I was seriously considering picking it up as a parts car.

I really can't travel very far to go look at one. A couple hundred miles is cool, but the one I posted pics of is the only one I've found up for sale and it's still 150 miles from me. Ebay, I've looked and looked, but I want to be able to check the car out befor I buy it. Ebay kinda scares me becouse you don't know what you're getting till after you've paid for it.

I would think if your looking for a daily transportation type ride then you'll need to be way more picky with what you are getting, I would be. When I was looking for fixers then I looked at work and cost differently. None of mine were running when I got them, most were on the verge of going to the big "El Camino" in the sky but I didn't pay didly squat for them. One was a tow away. They all had solid foundations and I can build on that, I'd rather spend my money on the project than on the initial aquisition.

I've got them talked down to $3,000.00 for the El Camino in the image station pics. Does it look like it's worth 3 grand ??? Strait body, no rust that I can see. 87,000 miles on it. 305 engine. It's suposta be a SS, but that doesn't really matter to me.

In my neck of the woods $3000 for what you describe is a pretty decent price. I've bought and sold a lot of cars and I have to disagree with Elky Pete on the philosophy of acquisition. I always try to buy the best example of the car that I want as long as the price is realistic. Mechanically it can need repair even extensive repair, but the body and frame have to be solid. The car should be complete also, those missing pieces of trim can nickle and dime you to death when it comes to replacing them. But 5th Gen Elkys don't really fall into the "collector car" genre yet. Used parts are still plentiful, but stay away from rust buckets.
I would go the 150 miles and take a good look at the car.

Yeah, looks like a SS-see that emblem on the passenger side of the dash? Cool gas pedal too! Also looks like it may have a Tach dash......that doesn't look like a clock. Power windows also.
Good Luck. I hope it turns out to be everything you want it to be.

http://photos.imageevent.com/weirtonspeedandmarine/private/elky%20dash-1.jpg Hey thanks. I'm going to get it tomorrow. I would go today, but I have to go to Casper Wy. for a Metellica concert this evening. 400 miles each way, but it's been a long time sence I've seen them in concert. I figure that I'll get home around 5am, and be back on the road a couple hours later to go get my El Camino. It's only 150 miles away.
