: explain "beer times"
skssrat 04-09-2010, 08:56 PM I was talking to bob in the chat room last nite, and the topic of "beer time" came up and it got me to thinking? He didn't know what it was and i explained it as, "any work done on a car if your drinking beer you have to include that time" because things seem to take longer. I came uup with a short list tonight of things include beer times. Take a look at it and feel free to add.
Beer Times
Starter replacement, 1 hour. Add at least one more hour for beer time
Preparing for a car show, Add at least four more hours beer time
Brake job, Add at least three hours more for beer time
Electrical problems, your probably still drinking at this point
Pulling an engine, add at least a full day of drinking and the extra time it took to talk your buddy into helping you that is now hopelessly drunk because all he wanted was the free beer.
Putting your new engine back in, see above.
Tune ups, this may vary from time to time because they are easy but, also present their selves as a good way to head out to the garage to get away from a wife or a girlfriend. Beer time could be anything from an hour to a few weeks.
I’m sure I could think up a few more but, does anyone else have their own “beer times”?
steelybill 04-09-2010, 10:04 PM Only one we use around here is when we finally get something fixed that has been a problem, it's "Miller Time":nanawrench:

texaselky 04-10-2010, 08:28 AM Well I've been working on my Camino for about 5 years, probably most of that is beer time.
Yeast1 04-10-2010, 11:38 AM Everytihing always takes me longer to do.
Sometimes I just stand and stare at things when they finally work. It's more amazing if I had anything to do with it.

OldChevysNeverDie 04-10-2010, 01:31 PM I started working on cars in the barn when I was 15. Every night was BEER TIME. You had to do something to wash out the Bondo dust.
skinyfisher 04-10-2010, 03:12 PM This hole group sounds like you have a pressure tube beer system installed in your garages and it runs parrallel to the air lines but has a larger tank?????? With this much thinking going on it must be BEER TIME
steelybill 04-10-2010, 03:57 PM Afraid my beer times are behind me, although I do have a cold one occasionally.
texaselky 04-10-2010, 04:02 PM Well the air compressor is 60 gal, the beer tank is only 16, it still lasts a few days tho.
ElCamino_Oz 04-10-2010, 07:07 PM Most of the time I have a few :alcoholic2:Beers before I get started so I can say It was the Beer, not me that made the mistake. Unless spinning wheels with teeth, or machines that melt metal are involved, In that type of situation I drink Beer after the mistake. The beer helps me to feel better that the mistake I made was a learning moment. :banghead:
Seraphx7 04-10-2010, 08:46 PM Killing my re-sell value but here she goes. I used cut up beer cans to help fill in the side markers (turn signals) rather than weld them. :nanawrench:
rtabish 04-11-2010, 07:23 PM does this mean that if you are drinking anything caffeinated or something like an energy drink, you get to deduct time?:dontknow:
79 Caballero 04-11-2010, 09:51 PM Beer time resulted in a broken kickdown cable for me while changing my carb, but as stated earlier in the post, beer time just makes me feel better that it was the beer that made the mistake, not me. Besides that, it usually results in me chaning broken stuff with better stuff so it really works out in the long run.
John B 04-11-2010, 10:03 PM Beer time?????? where beer??????? Seriously, save yerself headaches and save the beer for a reward after the job is done. Save ya lots of tim.....err guess thats not a prob, will save ya money anyhow. Could get down to just having to check oil or somthin so you can tell the wife you are still working on car and honey-do list is still on backburner.
If the work safety related like brakes, wheels, suspesion or fuel systems it's probably a really dumb idea not to wait till it is done.

this is the time to drink, makes the job go quicker(acually it takes longer but seems like less time) and you have fun doing it.
i need to add to the first statement tho. multiply the beer times by 1.5X if there is a ''helping hand'' there with you. you get into the talking beer time and adds to it. i seem to have a ''helping hand'' around during beer time that never seems to touch the car or help in any way but is still there haha
gr8ridejester 04-12-2010, 06:57 AM Obviously, my mechanic is on a 24/7 beer time. It's taken him 4 weeks thusfar to change the suspension and exhaust. :dontknow:

MEEE TOOO....I always have a "bud"(legal in California) before I start workin on my Elky, then,I talk to it,come to think about it, I talk to it all the time..sometime ,I just look at it and tell it to fix yourself, wishful thinking. But,hey, where the fun in not having a "Bud"or Miller high life,or,my old mans "Papsts blue ribbon".I think a little bit of "Bud" gives you a hole new perseptive point of view, you see stuff that wasn't there before, like a broken rocker arm. Ahh its really fun doing eletrical work,"Look at all the pretty colors wires".:alcoholic2::alc::beer:
