After five years of being registered here I finally made a thread. :nanawrench:
Well, just wanted to post a few pics of my Elky. Needs some work here and there.

Bought it from a guy I worked for about four years back.

The owner before him put this 350(3970010) in there. VIN says the car was originally a V6. Now, I'm no engine expert, but I'll give you details about the car as best I can.

Cam is not stock. Has posi differential, I have no clue what car it came from. 600cfm Holley. Dual electrical fans. B&M floor mounted shifter.

Needs RPM gauge.

A little messy in there.

Might be a tired old motor, but I still love my car.

Any other Elky owners from the Dallas, surrounding area?

After 5 years of not posting you might be considered a super lurker!

Nice looking '80 you've got there. An '80 V6 was my first 5th gen and I really enjoyed it.

Thanks. I registered when I had my 81 Conquista, but sold it a while back :( Only recently did I start browsing these forums again.

Nice looking Elky. Why does it have an 81 grill?

Bought it like that. Guess the front was wrecked. Frame is good. Good eye :You_Rock:

In that case I guess I can't post my car on here then since I finally put a 81 grille on my 80. Try and find a 80 grille for a GMC Caballero. I could not. Perhaps since I'm not a REAL El Camino I should not post any pictures anyway. Or could I get some feed back on this. My car is a 1980 GMC Caballero. Rango:nanawrench:

It's your ride, you should do whatever makes you happy (or use the parts that are available). They're only original once, don't sweat it.

Let's see some pix!

I have an '80 also. I'm just now getting mine where I can drive it, so I know what you've been going through. I think that '81 grill is the only one available that works with the '80...correct me if I'm wrong. :dontknow:

Where are you located in the DFW area, Brujo_78or81? We've got quite a gaggle of folks that are livin' in the MetroMess area. I've got a mailing list of them for notification of get-togethers, car shows, and the like. If you would like to be included in those get-togethers and/or car shows, send me your eMail address to kenrogers1@sbcglobal.net (kenrogers1@sbcglobal.net) . I personally reside in Joshua, approximately 25 miles South of Fort Worth. :texas:

I was not even looking for a second car when the car came up 1/2 mile from my house. I had been going to car shows with a couple friends and really needed a hobby. It was in great shape and the price was right. I never knew that GMC made this version. Once I finish every thing and get the lid, carpet, and some touch up here and there I will post some pictures. It may not be a El Camino but its mine and I like it. I just don't want to upset anyone on this site since it's been a great learning tool for me and this is a El Camino site. At least they look the same and I'm proud to own it.

The only difference between the two are the badges (emblems) and to paraphase a famous quote "Badges? We don't need no stinkin badges!"

Not really interested in get-togethers at the moment, but would like to be notified about elky car shows.

HEY ERNIE......
how come no-one replacates the grill from the 1980 ???
I"ve looked high and low to no avail, have a few that need cleaning and possibly chroming, but hard to find someone to plate plastic, with existing chrome on it !!
Did someone at GM make off with the pattern, or is there no market for an 80 grill?? :dontknow:

I always liked the 1981 grill and when I had a 1980.....I tossed the grill and put in an 81. It looks cleaner and almost billet like. Welcome to the site.....post photos.....tell lies....and have fun here.

That's what I did finally, just put a 81 on my 80 Caballero. Perhaps I will see if I can get the other one rechromed. Just not sure where I would even look? Any thought appreciated? Thanks Ernie, for my hood ornament, my buddy said I was nuts but it's not his car and I like it.

Welcome and I know the feeling. I registered in 2003 and pretty much forgot that I was registered here, but then I started posting here about a year ago, when I bought my '70.

I have grill from 80 gmc, caballero. Its painted black if your interested let me know. I put grill from 82 malibu wagon on mine. Made the mistake of eliminating vert bars with holes for badge---all the way across and verticle as well, that took awhile but looks good to me.
