Sounds like the car isn`t going into park. If not allthe way into park the ignition won`t lock. Are you using original equipment floor shifter ?

Dave thanks for answering. Yes it is all original and the xmissions does go into all gears it just seems like there is more pressure for the want of a better word when I backup and then goe forward then put it in park the key will sometimes act like it has a catch and is a little harder to lock jim:beer:

PS just had a brain fart could it be that I have to adjust the neutral safety switch I replaced this switch about a year ago because backup lites were intermitant and I'm sure the original cable had strechted some over the years and this being a new cable may be tighter and have a bearing I noticed this change imediatly after puttin new cable in Jim:texas:

Jim,
adjust the rod at the end of the column (just below the brake booster) to where it shoves the lever on the column up just a little bit more.

Also check the linkage for missing nylon style bushings. They take the loose conditions out of the linkage..

dave 464 elky and sandblaster thanks for the replys I think you guys hit the nail on the head I found if I was a little more forcefull putting it in park it worked like a charm. Got some slop somewhere at least I know where to look , Many thanks again Jim :You_Rock:
