just thought i'd post a picture of my 83 elky. its real dirty in the picture because i had to drive it over the winter. dont worry though,i washed it the other day. also last monday i put the front clip from my '79 on it. its pretty much bone stock other than a sunpro supertach and a windshield washer pump from my dodge truck (don't ask). it needs doors and quarters and i'm gonna start working on the body once i get something else to drive...

I see the snow....if they salt the roads there please wash the hell out of the underbody, or in another five years there will be one less elky......
I would say run it through a underbody carwash, but that might hurt the window seals or cause a leak...........
I have driven a many a rough ones, they somehow magically keep on tickin (don't they) until you try and make em something special....be prepared to replace everything eventually, and if you let em sit too long they get tempermental too
did you have to replace the hood when put that 79 clip on???
seems I had a problem on one I was trying to turn for a quick profit

Had your Elky been a lighter color it wouldn't have looked so dirty and it just means that it runs. Spotless cars always make me wonder if they ever get driven. There are times in the summer here, where my Elky driver will look really good for up to a full week. I have come to understand that with dark colors and in my case the type of paint (Its had to describe) it takes a lot of constant cleaning to keep it looking its best.
I would use a Car Wash sprayer on the underside, rust even in this part of the country, is a problem with that generation. I believe it was because GM had just started wide scale automation around then and their process weren't very good at first. Lots of new EPA Rules was changing the finishes and coatings. When I got my 80 the finish on it had tiny little pin holes all over it all the way to the surface metal. There was a fair amount of rust and it has never been out of this area.

the frame is very solid on this one. i think the body is really rusty because somewhere down the line it was repainted and they didnt do a good job prepping it and the rust bubbled up from underneath the paint. then it must have gone downhill from there. luckily its still saveable.
Black Knight,i did'nt have to change hoods, everything lined right up. i am going to put the hood from the '79 on it eventually because the gray one on the car has some small rust holes.
thanks for the comments guys!
