The A/C compressor on my 86 Silverado (not my 68 El Camino) cycles on and off even when the control lever and the fan switch are in the off position. The system blows cold or hot as selected, but the compressor runs even if I select "vent" under "economy". Any ideas as to what is the matter? Thanks in advance.

ask "acauth1"........he will know
I wish he would come work for me, but he likes it better in Texas
I've got a good idea of what he would say, but I am not going to post anything that would make myself look stupid :-P

Thanks, Black Knight, I will. BTW, I was born in Greenville, SC. Rode my Harley to the HOG national rally there in 1999 and really enjoyed the South Carolina scenery. My parents left Greenville with me when I was 3 months old. That was the first time I have ever really seen South Carolina, much nicer than West Texas! :D

You either have a bad selector switch in the control head, or a wire shorted to the clutch or pressure switch wiring sending voltage to the clutch at all times. Gain access to the back of the control head and unplug the selector switch, if the clutch turns off replace the selector switch. If it stays engaged, you have a wiring issue.

Thanks, Robert, I appreciate the help! Wish I would have known that when I had the dash apart when I replaced the dash panel and radio! At least I know how to gain access to the back of the control head! Not a fun job!

Sounds like a good plan Black Knight! I know about Myrtle Beach Bike Week, May 7-16 I think. It'll have to be next year, though, I'm going to Florida this year about that time for a 1st Air Commando Wing reunion. Budget, you know! 8)
