I need to remove the REAR headliner plastic trim strip that is just above the rear window.
There are no screws so I assume there are clips that hold it on.
Can someone tell me the best way to remove it without messing it up. I have unscrewed the side trim pieces in the back already.

It IS held in place with some spring clips. There's no trick to it, gently pry it off a little bit at at time. Not hard at all. Btw, it's steel, not plastic.

As stated, the trim is metal, the clips that hold it in are plastic. Be prepared to buy new clips when you remove this trim piece as most of the time they break and are not re-useable.

Sorry to bring back a dead thread, but does anyone know where to get these clips or what they are called. My rear trim was actually held in by screws that someone put in there but the front was held in by clips. I'm hoping that these are the same ones all around. I've seen the clips referred to a couple of times and even some links on where to get them but I'm not sure what they are called to find them.
I have my headliner all refinished and just need to get these to put it back up.

The clips are still available thru any GM dealer.

This is from ECPARTS.net. The have the front and side clips as well. Might as well replace them all while your at it.

You can find them on eBay a bit cheaper. There is an alternative clip that also works and was only a buck a piece. On the older 5th gens there were five each front and back and the later years they only put in three. Count the holes in the frame.
If you can snip off the clips with a pair of angle cutters (dikes) you have less chance of damaging the trim, like I did.
Good luck.

Found them on ecarparts.com so thank you for that. Would the GM dealer be any cheaper or is this pretty much the going rate?

prolly not cheaper at the dealer but there's no shipping charges. And if they give you the wrong ones, you don't have to wait for more to be shipped. If you can find a dealer that still carries the NOS make friends with them.

I believe Mike's Montes has them. Three for the back and five for the front. Sold that way. Cheaper than $5 apiece.

FYI, the clips are different for the front and the rear. Three of each would probably suffice, but extra's don't hurt. I typically break at least one trying to install them.
JStanfield on here made a tool for the trim removal, and had some pictures on here. http://www.elcaminocentral.com/showthread.php?t=35618&highlight=Trim+Tool
