Hi everyone,

I've been a member here for a while, but haven't posted much since my son was born in '06.

Right before he was born, we attended a gathering that Steve Frey organized at a Bakers Cruise night. As I recall, there were about 6 of us there.

Now that I've found you all again, I notice there doesn't seem to be much activity from the Michigan members. How about we check in and see about getting together again!

I'm Rob, I live in Royal Oak, and I have an '83 Caballero that I drive almost daily in the suummer. It's mostly stock, but has the suspension from a '78 Pontiac Grand Am, and is a great driver.

Happy New Year to all of you members in Michigan. Sounds like you are starting to think about getting an early Spring get-together. I want you to know that NECOA has 117 registered members in Michigan alone, of whom 14 have made at least 100 posts each! That's a pretty impressive showing. It is also interesting to note that over 30 new members have registered in Michigan in 2010 alone. So your areas is really starting to take off!

NECOA has been seriously looking at some changes in our regional structure and Region 9 is one of them. The distances from the northern tip of Michigan all the way down to Kentucky is simply huge and impractical. It might make sense to organize members in Michigan into their own separate area, with a local Regional Director and/or Deputy Regional Director near where most of the members live. Why don't you guys talk about it amongst yourselves and let me know the best candidates for a leadership role??

You can find other Michigan members to contact via PM or email simply by going into the Members List at the top of the home page, then select advanced search on right side of page and enter "Michigan" into the state box and "Region 9" into the Region box and see what comes up. Good luck to all of you and hope to see some discussions on this in the Region 9 forum. John Harris, National Director

Hey folks, I'm from Coleman MI, in the Midland, Clare, Mt.Pleasant area. A local club, the Rod Benders, put on a carshow every spring in my little town of about 1500. It draws a lot of cars for a small town but few Elkys. I will get some info on their plans for this spring and post them on this thread. I know any and all Elkys from anywhere would be welcome, even a pink one:poke:. Later, Larry

Hi, got some information on the yearly car show in Coleman. It is held the 2nd weekend in June. It starts on Friday night with a cruise and burnouts. The show is Saturday in downtown Coleman. Last June it drew 220 vehicles. Not bad for a small town. The Rod Benders have held this show for several years so they have had some practice. For the last couple of years they have had a mobile dyno come in so you could have your ponies counted. I don't know if it will be here this year. In fact there is a lot I still don't know, so the coordinator gave me his email address so you can contact him directly for more complete and accurate info. His address is--- stevpam1@gmail.com His name is Steve Johnson and he is more than happy to give you the info you need. Sure would like to see a row of Elkys and Cabbys on main street next Spring!!:smileyb:

Hello all,
I live in the Flint area and have a 79 being painted right now, looking forward to a summer of cruising. one thing i havent seen posted is the "Back to the Bricks" held in august every year in flint. its usually the same time as the woodward cruise but is huge anyways. i took my elky there last 2 years. looks like they want to make a 2 week event out of it this year. http://backtothebricks.org/

Hi johnniefive and welcome:You_Rock:

Thanks for the remonder about Back to the Bricks. I love 2 miles from Woodward, yet I usually stay away from the official cruise. I have some friends who did Back to the Bricks last year and raved about it.

Maybe we should have a gathering of El Caminos there?:poke:

Welcome to both the new Daves! I don't know about where you are, but I'm looking out the window and seeing more snow. Once the weather warms up, we're going to be planning some meetups.

Love to hear more about your Elky's, and pics are always a plus:poke::beer:

Hi!! My name is Kirk,I live in Western Michigan.I've owned my El Camino for about 4Yrs but winter of last year I completely redid it.It has a 350 auto in it.I thought it came out real nice for my first complete job.I get a lot of flak for the 18s and 20s but I wanted to do something different.I've never driven a car that just floats down the road so nice!!

Hey everyone! My name is Nick, I'm 19 and from Fraser (Small town in the Clinton Township area) and I have a 78 El Camino that my grandfather gave to me when I was 14. I helped him restore it when I was a kid, and it's in pretty good shape. I have my own plans for it, but it'll be awhile. I've taken it to both Gratiot cruises, and the Harper cruise, but not Woodward yet. Hope to see some of you guys out this summer! Take care!

Hey there 80, thanks for checking in. I almost passed on my 83 because of the V6. I bought it with plans of doing a V8 swap. I even went so far as to buy an 86 305 car for parts. The parts all all still in my garage. I've loaned some or given some to friends.

Once gas prices went crazy a few years ago, I started parking my new car in the summer because the Caballero got better mileage. I'm not crazy about the lack of power, but any excuse to drive it more sounds good to me:beer:

Checking in, currently working on a 71 El Camino just for fun. Also I'm about twenty miles south of Lansing and if there is any other Elco fans close by I sure wouldn't mind helping each other out on our cars.
