Actually there is not a great deal of chrome under the hood. most of what you see is polished aluminum. I know it adds to the difficulty factor but it does not chip or peel and does look more classy and hi-tech.
Lets face it how often do we get the recognition we deserve for our cars- trucks, not in the truck mags and seldom in the car mags.
After all don't we have the original hybrids? You would think since that is the in thing in cars someone would have picked up on that by now.
I love my ElCamino because it is the best of both, drives and handles like a great car and has a really big trunk to boot.

While I have some of your attention. If there is anyone in the central Texas area in need of a fairly good 5th Generation stock hood. I have one that is Free to a good home. All you would have to do is coordinate with me to pick it up. The hood has no rust and is currently in primer but would still need additional prep for paint. Did I mention it is FREE. By the way in case you may have some question about the function of my 83. This is not another trailer queen or garage fixture. I can assure you that this car was made to be driven. This is actually my daily driver which I drive every day to and from work as well as around town on the weekend. I have done quite a bit to up grade to the whole car drive train, suspension, brakes, body and interior. The car is a joy to drive in addition to getting it's share of complimentary looks. Sure it requires extra attention to keep it in this condition, but it's a labor of love and a very worthwhile endeavor. Harald K. :texas:

Well it appears that the Eastwood car of the month web site voting has broken down , at least as far as recent votes for my 1983 ElCamino.
I have checked my statues a couple of times over the past two days adding a number of the known votes cast this week the count should be close to 300 but continues to hold at 287 which is where it was Monday. Perhaps the web master has a grudge against the ElCamino. On the bright side if all others are having the same issue it would still leave me in the lead. Have a great weekend. Actually.....YES, I had a very valid reason for voting they I did. I vote for the vehicle I think is best and deserves to win. I don't vote for a El Camino just because it's an El Camino and someone asked me to. If you can be proud of winning that way, than more power to you. Well it is unlikely we will be able to close the gap before the end of the contest, but we gave it a valiant effort. I want to thank everyone for their strong support through out the month. A special thanks to Ken, Donny and all those who took the time to vote every day. I think we did bring some serious recognition to this half breed loved by some hated by others machine we are endeared to.
Keep those who gave all in your hearts not just tomorrow but everyday.

Thanks to you to all for taking the time and making the effort to cast your votes. Anyone who plays with these big boys / girls toys understands the effort that goes into keeping them working , making one last and look good.
Being able to gain the appreciation of ones peers is priceless.
I also want to recognize the Eastwood people for providing a venue for the regular guys to show off our projects.
