I joined here a few years ago just after inheriting my FIL's '82 Conquista. Well, the time has come to start working on it. We took it to a local shop to see what could be done with it. The short answer is "depends on how fat your wallet is". It's running, barely, but I doubt it would run long enough to even complete the emissions test, let alone pass it. Interesting vehicle. It's a '82, and according to the VIN, originally had a V-8 in it. It has a 231, an '83 from what I can tell. Not sure why the PO would pull the V-8 and drop in the 3.8, but they did. So, the adventure has begun. I'm really not sure what we'll do with it. My wife wants to dump it ASAP, but I'm willing to spend a bit of time and money to see if I can get it running better. Thanks in advance for all the answers and info to my questions...and I'll have a lot of them. I know Toyota's pretty well, but Chevy's are completely new to me. Wish me luck!

Looks like you got a lot of experence on imports, now show what you can do with American. It looks like you have something good to (start) with.
Good luck and keep us posted.

What the heck is an "emissions test"? It is a state mandated test to measure the amount of pollutants emitted by a vehicle's exhaust system.

If the body and frame are sound and interior in good shape - KEEP IT!
If the v6 is running that bad... drop a V8 back in.

Like SSR71 said. Drop a V8 in it and alot easyer to work on then those V6'S for sure. Good luck with the project. Look's good.

Not to drift off topic, but the emissions test is crazy! There would be no cars on the road at all in Canada if they enforced that here. My friends call my car the "environmental devastator" because if it's running out in the driveway the whole house fills up with exhaust and pretty near kills you. I guess we have it pretty good up here!

California is the strictest state for emission standards. EPA has an iron grip on everything. We can't even get auto paints like the rest. It's all waterborne now.
