Anyone ever replaced a console on an '84 Elky? How did you get the shifter handle off? It won't fit through the slot in the console.... Looked through the shop manual, but couldn't find it anywhere. :cry: T.I.A. Charlie ('59, '78, & '84 El Caminos)

If thier anything like the F-body shifter handle, there is a little "c" type clip at the front bottom edge of the handle. Pull the clip straight out, pull the shifter straight up.

Yea, it's one of those clips that you can only see if you stick your head between the radio and the front of the shifter handle. A small flat screwdriver and a pair of needle-nose pliers works well. Don't lose the clip. :wink:

:D Both of you guys were right on the money!! Clip out, part replaced and clip reinstalled in less than 5 minutes! Outstanding!! Clip really looks like a large staple, but the old needlenose pliers worked great. Thanks again!! Charlie
