Hey everyone!
Back home from a vacation. We drove from California to Texas. Drove just over 4,000 miles in eight days on the rented van. Man it's nice to be home in my own bed! Wow, 93 octane fuel in Texas! That was nice to see as we don't have that here in California. Of course the rental got the cheap stuff!
I have been away from a computer for over a week. Have to catch up on e-mail and whats been going here on the forum.
I got my 3rd gen T-Shirts/sweatshirt while I was gone in the mail. Nice to have those when I got home.
Again, good to be home and back talking with all of you!

Just for laughs, how much WAS that 93 octane in Texas? Less than the price of 87 here in the Bay Area, I'll bet? I paid 2.05 today in Walnut Creek - the cheapest by at least .06 in my neighborhood...

Well I just had to take a picture of this as you know this is a rare sight for us here in California. As I was filling up I took this pic as a lady on the other side of the pump must of thought I was a little strange doing so.
My '70 El Camino and Buick Grand National back home were saying please give me a taste! :-(
Price was 1.52 reg, 1.62 plus, and yes 1.72 got you the 93!

Yeah, we get the "Good Stuff" here. Its expensive but, thankfully, not as bad as in Ca. 2 gallons of Toluene to 20 gallons of high octane 92 will give you a yield of 95.5 octane. It has no effect on the engine or its components, its cleaner to burn that "Gasoline" and does produce less hydrocarbons. 10:1 mix will raise the octane level of the gas by as much as 3 points.
That is way, way different than anything you can poke into the gas tank from an Auto Supply. None of that crap will actually raise the octane level. It can clean out the fuel system but you are not going to get any more than about a .5 boost in octane at the very best.
Toluene has an effective octane rating of 114 with R*M/2 method and can be purchased at lots of places. Paint store is one place that comes to mind.
Just talking.

Did last week in Plano, TX and enjoyed great gas prices everywhere except back home in Iowa. Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas were reasonable. Kansas was nearly as bad as here plus they hit you $4.75 to ride I35. Went to the Ft Worth Zoo while there. Glad we decided there instead of Dallas. Wish I'd had time to stop in OK City to see the Elkys, but did see a cool one parked in south OK City. I second that motion about good to sleep in my own bed. 8)

ElkyPete, is that legit about the Toluene, or are you pulling my leg man? I'm gonna have to break out my chemistry set and try this! :eh: Now where did I put that beaker? :lookround: Oh, there it is, now lets see 1 gal of Toluene to 10 gals of 93 Octane gas, :eh: or was that 1 gal of gas to 10 gals... 8O oops! :onfire:
