i have a 71 el camino ,new steering components, hoses, pump ,gear b,ox ect. the new pressure line going to the gear box leaks,if i tighten it snug it leaks , a little tighter it still leaks but not as much ,real tight but not enought to split the flair or dent the valve fitting it still leaks, should i crank it tighter? or use some teflon tape on threads even tho its a compression fitting? took it apart and the flare looks ok on the hose end and the brass fitting on the box looks ok, any ideas, thanx .

sounds like maybe a bad flare on the hose or the the fitting in the gear box has a flaw, you can get copper conical seals to insert and then tighten it up, works most the time.

i just did hoses on my 84 and there was a o ring that goes on the very end of inner line which goes in the steering box and then run the nut down.

Use the teflon tape. You are basically using the tape as a thread lubricant and not as a sealant. This will allow you to tighten the fitting tight enough for the compression seal to do it's job. Guaranteed no leaks. Try it out.
