a week or two ago i noticed a small crack on the lower left corner of my windshield but it was small and i didn't think much of it. well fast forward about a week and the crack is getting bigger. i went to a glass place on the way home from school today to get an estimate and they told me about $215 for a new one installed with a warranty. guess i know what my tax refund check is going towards....

Cracks in the glass will always spead. I replaced mine a few years ago. It's nice having a totally clear windshield though.

Living out west here they don't use a lot of salt on the roads but they do put gravel down!. I use to change my windshield as soon as the first rock ding or crack started...now I just leave them until I can't see out of them any more. My fathers car back east had the same winshield for 20 years without a mark, my wifes 4 year old minivan has a windshield that looks like a road map of the U.S. :( and the one in my car is sandblasted like a winston cup car after a 500 mile race, fun in bright sunshine.
Funny thing, just yesterday I checked on a new windshield for my 81 project here in Central Lower Michigan, with tint, and ant. Total cost, $160.00 plus tax, installed, and he'd travel about 60 miles round trip to install it. I'd shop around some more.
Check Safelite (http://www.safelite.com/), they were the cheapest in my area and they're all over the place.

you can get a glass shop to stop the crack where it is. they did it on my old 94 pick-up. they just drill a tiny hole at the end of the crack and it should stop it. just a quick fix until you got the money saved up for the new windshield. mine has a crack in it now too, a half moon crack on the top passenger side. not too concerned with it now.

I don't have any cracks or dings YET, Mine has the sandblast look also, even the rear window and door glass has some. The passengers wiper arm wiped itself right off the windshield in a pouring rain. Amazing fly by, god was I stunned, took one or two wipes before I could pull over, the deed was done. Does anyone know if these can be polished out or the whole windshield polished. I am under the impression that doing this could leave a blemished area resulting in blurred vision. Maybe a perscription windshield would work, what a ride for the passenger, LOL

Yes you can polish the windshield. I've done a few, it works well but is very time consuming. Check here The Eastwood Company (http://www.eastwoodco.com/department.asp?dep_key1=plagla&SKW=FPG) for a windshield polishing kit. I use a right angle die grinder instead of a drill motor.
