Sometimes your dog or pet is the only constant in the universe. No matter what else is going on. They just love you. Thank goodness for that. Don't know where we would be without it. Sometimes that is all we need.

My wife and I have always had a cat that owned us . Had to have her put down. then this last winter 2 big kittens all black showed up so not wanting them to freeze my wife would heat blankets in the dryer and put them on the settee for them to snugglle in we also fed them all winter and made sure thet they had water. The little ingrates are now grown and still here but won't let us get close to them to pet about 2 foot is as close as we get when filling there dish with food, and to make maters worse ones a boy the others a girl so now I'm going to have to live trap them and take to the shelter, maybe they have been invited into the house on more than one cold night and morn but no dice . The smaller one ,the boy did come into the sun room for about 2 seconds then out like a shot I think they must be mexican cats and just don't understand english oh well I tried Jim :dontknow: :texas:

We have had a number of dogs during our 46 years of marriage. We had most for 12 years and one for 16 years. It's hard losing one after so long a time. I probably am going to adopt another from the shelter this summer.

Very true, I was working under the Elco the other night, and needed the Breaker bar, I didnt feel like crawling out from under my Elco so I told my Lab, Abbi, get the breaker bar, she looks at me like????? so I said it again. Guess what? she drops it next to the Elco, right next to me. What the???? I run inside, get my wife bring her to the garage, get under the Elco and say, Babe get me the Breaker bar, she looks at me like?????I say it again, nothing. one more time and my Lab crawls under the Elco to get me the Breaker bar. all my wife could do is stare, like no way! that in my opinion is the long nights for the last 4 years working on my Elco by myself with the only one that would stay with me.......my "Faithful" Black Lab.

2 dogs 1 cat and a miniature dutch rabbit here..... weird as it may seem the rabbit is the head honcho, he may only weigh like 5 punds and my dogs weigh 60 and 25 but not one dog in this house, nor cat, will mess with that rabbit. :dontknow:

My wife and I have rescued all the animals we have.

One cat we found when we were out looking for a house to buy. He and one of his siblings came running around the corner of the house, no more than 3 weeks old. We asked the owner of the house and he said that he had recently taken a female cat to the pound. So we walked in to his back yard and found 3 more little kittens. Took all of them home. Two died from malnourishment but the other 3 made it. We keep the first one that we saw come around the house that day and called him Orange Juice.

The next cat we got was about a year later. We were at a flea market and there were 2 girls with a box of kittens just outside of it. We stopped by to look and they were way too small to be sold. They told us that they already had them on dry food and everything. They looked really skinny and we felt bad so we bought one and took her home. We gave her a dry food made soft by soaking it in milk made for kittens. She was fighting to get out of my wife’s hands and get to the food the first time we feed her. She’s doing well now and we called her Milkshake.

The 2 newest ones are 2 dogs. My mother-in-law went to work today and found them on her door step in a box. She brought them home and called us to come over and look at them. I have no idea what they are but they are no more than a few months old. My wife and I fell in love with them and took them home today. The boy is called Bentley and the girl is called Jezebel.

I love all me pets and couldn’t imagine just leaving them somewhere for somebody else to raise and take care of. I can’t believe that some people can just dump an animal like that and not care.

These are my buddies! The bigger one(lab/mix unknown) was a shelter dog, and the smaller one(beagle/lab mix) couldn't stay in his home anymore, so we took him in.

Scrap, the bigger one, thinks he owns my bed.

I believe we all spoil our dogs. My current one is a female boxer, three years old. She is my 7th boxer. Sadly, the average life span of a boxer is only 8 years. The last two I had were about 7, but one before those two was 11 1/2, so we had more years to spoil that one....
The current one sleeps on the end of my bed, and thinks she is a lap dog..:smileyb:

Thats a classic million picture.. ARE WE THERE YET!!!!!!!!
We used to breed dogs. The best were Labs. and the dalmations were to wirey. But you can't beat a pound puppy/dog they are the most loving and i don't know if it's they never want to be locked up again. I have never chained up a dog in the yard or left them outside to live in the rain. Even had two indoor pot belly pigs billy and pinky. and how about 36 llamas :???: (SPIT HAPPENS) in Montana and two cows every year one for us and one for the food bank alfalfa and grain fed. Theres no better meat.

Nothing like having a good dog around when little children are there. My son's male boxer is really protective of our 2 yr old grandchild...

Bill, I have a good buddy in S.C. with two boxers, "Harley" and "Davidson"! He has about 12 acres with a couple of horses. The place is fenced and gated. No human would get more than a step and a half through that gate without a family escort. The flip side of their behavior is when around family and friends they are a couple of pushovers. My Rottie is like that. Loves m e and all children. Tolerates my wife. Does not tolerate any UPS drivers or Jehovah's Witnesses that continue to pester us.

Hey, terry
it's the same here in Florida. people are turning their pets loose because of foreclosures and such. My wife and I have placed three we found wandering around. it is tragic and disgusting. Dogs are like children to us.There are those who disagree. I have a few choice words for them. I watched a show about all the dogs turned out during Hurrican Katrina. I had wet eyers myself. It ain't right!

I can't remember a time in my entire life when we didn't have at least one dog, and it makes my blood boil when I see or hear of people dumping them off or just letting them run loose. It's a shame. In our area, it seems that people have not only decided to toss aside their dogs, but also their Donkeys! They can't afford to feed them, and there's no "market" or real value for them, so people have just turned them loose to get hit by cars, or starve to death. It's sickening!

Who ever would have envisioned that the corruption and greed in Washington and Wall Street would have impacted "man's best friend"? There are a few shows on TV these days about dog rescue operations. The scope of the problem is unthinkable. Thankfully, there are a lot of good people stepping up to mitigate the situation. The county government here has a policy of holding animals for seven days at the pound for claiming or adoption. The eighth day is every monday when an average of 150 dogs are euthanized. There are a bunch of "no kill" shelters and adoption agencies that are running WOT to help.

Robert, thanks for posting that letter. It is heartwarming and makes many good observations about human nature. I can't imagine it would offend anyone. It's worth the read, my friend.

I will copy it in case it is deleted so I can pass it around. Some might think it is wierd or improper to have a thread about dogs on a car enthusiast's site. I don't. I visit several Marine veteran sites regularly. Quite often members there start threads about their dogs, cats, horse even pigs.
I am glad you posted it.
James

I just posted this story on two veteran sites where the majority of members own dogs!

The public in general doesn't think about animals when seeing a natural disaster on TV, unless the news media happens to show animals during their newscast, which always gets my attention....

Thanks for the support i thought I REALLY DID IT THIS TIME. I saw the first couple of post after i posted it and I had one I offended and the next was crying. I asked John and the big kahuna to delete it but maybe their not around ? I haven't received any PMs yet. [That original post by Robert has been deleted at his request via PM to me. John H.]
I've breed dogs and had a few pound puppies most of my life and loved everyone of them no matter what they pulled when i wasn't looking., It's Really bad when your defrosting meat on the counter pushed all the way back where theres no way they can get to it and the cat hooks up with them and pushes it on the floor. True story we sold Maincoon cats they get up to 20lbs and like to play with the water. It's not to hard to push a couple of steaks off the counter.
Thanks again for the support I feel much better now.

Robert, I hope my post wasn't the reason you had this removed. I was joking about having Ken take it down. In the last part of my post i said i now had to go throw the ball to my lab.. meaning i need to go show her some love. I got all weepy and stuff while reading the letter and really enjoyed it. I'm not an animal lover to the point that they take the place of my kids, but, i do believe that if you have animals you should treat them properly. I raise cattle as a side buisness and spend plenty of time and money making their life as good as i can. I do have a hard time taking them to the stockyard sometimes. In fact, I have a couple of cows that are pets and will never be taken to the yard.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. My feeble attempt at humor.
Here are my two attack dawgs. The lab , Daisey, was born on the same day Saddam Hussein was captured so she's kinda special. The Boston ,Bella, was left to die because she was the runt of the litter. She is the best dog we've ever had. 17 lbs of muscle and there is no dog she'll back down from. I've made her my official Marine Mutt.. even though shes a pure bred.

Sure dogs may not be a directly related subject to cars, but this is the general BS section & that's what it's here forI,d think. All good to me.
