I've ordered new window felts for an 84 Elky I just picked up. Can anyone give a newbie some guidance on where I can find out how to install them? Can't seem to find anything in the Haynes workshop manual or on the internet.

Pretty easy to do. You'll obviously have to remove the door panels. With the panel removed, roll down the window and remove the screws that hold the outer felts to the door and install your new ones.
The inner ones are a little different, they are held on the backside of the door panel with steel staples. You can usually remove the staples with a pair of dykes and a screwdriver, I use a die grinder and grind them off.
To install the new ones, I align the felt to door panel and hold in place with a couple of pair of vise grips and then drill four or five 1/8 holes through the lower lip of the felt and the metal lip of the panel and secure with rivits.
Reinstall the door panel and marvel at the site of the new felts and satisfation that comes with doing the job yourself....oh, and you can roll the window back up whenever you want.

On the inner ones on mine i did it this way.
Remove the old staples and wipe. Align the new wipe and use a 2x4 as a backup under the panel edge and new wipe. Then i used an air stapler to drive new staples thru the metal lip and the new wipe. Spread the staples out and re-install.

Can you get the outer window felts (attached to the door) without removing the window glass? On my '79 it seems as though the door glass doesn't go down far enough.

On my 85 i did the outer ones without removing the window but the center screws were very hard to get to.
A few hail mary's later i had em!

I had to remove my windows to get to my outer felts on my 84. I tinted them while I was at it. 15%. Gave it a nice look.

You can get to the center ones with out removing the glass. Use a small offset phillips.
