did I do bad...:dontknow:http://elcaminocentral.com/images/lustrous/misc/progress.gif Welcome to ECC.
I suppose that would depend on the condition of the vehicle and how much you paid. Being that the block is non numbers matching, realisticly what difference would the rearend make as long as it's a 12 bolt out of a Chevelle, Monte Carlo or Elky...some of the SS 396s (402) had 10 bolt rears...but I believe all of the 454s had 12 bolt rears. Did you buy this car without actually seeing it? If so, I would be concerned whether it's a cloned SS. Hopefully you at least have an SS that had a 396 and was swapped for a 454 that was built to LS6 specs. There were very few SS 454s LS6 Elkys produced...if you have an Elky that was originally an SS 396 or 454 with an LS5, be happy with what you have...as long as you didn't pay what it would have cost you to buy one that was an all original numbers matching 454 LS6 in mint shape.

I agree with "theelcaminofactory" comments. Enjoy it and not worry about the numbers. Good Luck!

Only numbers you need to be concerned with are 0 to 100 in 5.2 seconds!!!!!
Enjoy it no matter what numbers it has as long as it's number 1 to you!!!!
Welcome

I agree, and I don't play the numbers game either. If you're going to walk it up to Barretts someday, then it's important - otherwise, have fun and enjoy your car! I found a '70 396 out of a chevy PU, dropped it into my '68, and couldn't be happier. Well, I would be happier if I could chop a big hole in the hood, drop in a blown 427, tub the rear.. but it would be a travesty to butcher this fine automobile. I'll save that crazyness for some other project!
