I recently post I bought a 1971 El Camino on eBay. It is being shipped to me. I have been trying to figure out if it is an actual SS with a 454 or a built truck. Reading the information I found here I could not tell. I do not have the car yet. The shipper has not picked it up.

The VIN is 136801B240728.

The 71 and earlier VINs did not include info on the engine. But, I can tell you it was built in Baltimore.

Who did you use as the broker to get it shipped? I had a bad experience getting mine shipped from the east coast a couple years ago.

I am using United Road. Not the highest or the lowest priced. I filled out a form on a web site offering me 7 quotes. I got many many more than that until I quit talking to them when they called. I finally just picked one. Not a great way to make a decision but I really didn't have anything to go on to help with the choice.

I have my fingers crossed hoping it works out OK. Time will tell.

So when is the ETA?

you should have done better reseach before you bought it. i have a 71 ss elky with a 454. the vin doesn't tell you anything. i just bought mine because it was a bb car. i have a feeling your butt is going to hurt for a long time..............

These days I suspect any car with SS badges as a clone, unless it has solid factory documentation.

I don''t expect a true SS 454 since the seller said he didn't know if it was or not and that he hadn't had the car long. Plus I got it for a driver price and not a real high one. If it drives well and looks good going down the street I will be happy.
