It's seems I've found the reason for my innacurate tach. Someone in the past replaced the original one with a V6 tach. So, I need a V8 tach. Don't need the wiring or anything else, just the gauge itself. PM me if you happen to have one. Thanks.

This is a V8 tach:

If the redline is less than 5k, it's a V6 tach, which is my problem. If your tach matches the picture, and you're wanting to sell, let me know.

Well I can tell you this mine starts about 4400 RPM it is a V8 305 and came with the tach originally and has never been replaced. All El Camino's I have seen with the V8 have the red or yellow line starting at 4400 and all the Monte's I have seen start at 5000 RPM.

Hmm, well the Monte had the same 305 V8, so why would it have a different tach? I was curious as to why my numbers matching Elky had a v-6 tach in it. I'm basing my info on which tach is correct off of this thread, specifically the response from 87Elcamino: http://www.elcaminocentral.com/showthread.php?t=32593 So is Ernie right, or am I following the wrong trail here?
