I've been running a McCord Power Plate (http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/mpp.htm) for almost 2 years on my Camaro and I have a dual setup for the El.

Because you want to and you can try these guys:Quick Time Performance (http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/)
I've had their electric cutouts for a couple of years. They install easy and work well and the price is reasonable also. Doug Thorley also make electric cutouts and my cousin has used them. They are not as easy to install but they work well.

I like a loud exhaust too, but I'm going with Hooker headers, 2.5" exhaust with Flowmasters, and strait out the back. Cut-out are just too loud for me.

Headers, electric switch cutouts, and straight out through glass-packs... http://www.discodelic.netfirms.com/confused-thinking.gif

That' basically my setup. Except I used Chambered Exhaust mufflers instead of glass pack.

Ive herd that runing straight headers is bad for your heads i dont know if this is true or not but isnt this the same kinda deal?

I grew up being told that running just headers is bad for the valves,
the heads are a mute point.

If you were to run open headers all the time, yeah that would be bad for the vavles. But with the electric cutout plates its usually just once in a while (for me anyway). Maybe at the track or I feel like waking the neighborhood. 8O

are glass packs a good idea to get because i was thinking about getting them for my el camino

Glasspacks are great if you like that old time blat..tty exhaust sound. Personally I like the more modern deeper sound of Flowmasters or similar mufflers. Besides those glasspacks, even though they sound loud, are not very efficient and provide less performance than a modern muffler design.

so what is the difference between sound and performance of a two chamber and a three chamber muffler like the flowmaster?

I have hooker 1 3/4" primaries into 3" collectors with 2.5" pipes with cutouts and flowmaster 40's. the best sound was just off the muffler in front of the rear axle. the only problem for me was the extreme resonanse frequency in the cab so I had turndowns put on. it eliminated the resonance and the car is still very loud. glasspacks makes the car sound like an old farm truck imo.

I agree--the "blatty, blatt" of most glasspacks are not music to my ears.
