This car is for sale locally. It is a 4.3 V6 86. That much I know. Does this appear to be a standard El Camino model? How much should I pay? Good running & operating condition with 140,000 miles. Thanks!

Go look at it. That will tell you in a hurry. That's a lot of miles. check for rust and bring a magnet to check for bondo in the fenders. good luck.

The seller is not knowledge at all regarding the car. I'm in Miami, essentially a foreign land. Any idea what I should pay or whether this is the standard El Camino based on the photos? Thanks.

Not a bad looking car at all. If you get the VIN number let me know. I have a whole library I can look it up in. Call the owner, he can at least give you the VIN., knowlegeable or not. If you want email me, rmester@comcast.net.

In that case look at some on e-bay or craiglist's and then go as low as you might want to pay. It sounds like the seller does that know what he is doing and with that amount of miles you can make a offer of $500.00 and see what the seller thinks, Can't you tell what kind of El Camino it is, check for rust, look under the car DID YOU DRIVE IT YET TO TEST IT? 140K is a lot. I didn't see anything in the pics to indicate any 'special' designation. What's the asking price?

I did drive it. Drives fine. I'll e-mail you the VIN number ElkieBob, thanks. I don't know much about El Camino's (I have a 70 Camaro RS) but thought I would join the club since they're reasonably priced. That's why I asked for help in identifying and pricing it.

Thanks rango. I don't have a problem negotiating the price, but I'm asking you knowledgeable folks what the fair market value for this vehicle would be.

Engine looks like a backyard swap job, I don't think the hoses and wires were originally routed as shown. Rust under the hood in the pix, check the usual rust prone areas.

$2000 is not an unreasonable price, I paid a little more than that for mine but I didn't argue the point since I bought it from a long time friend and knew how meticulous he was with his vehicles. That said, $1500 would be better of course. If you have an RS I'm guessing you maintain it yourself (sweet car btw), so you know some common mechanical issues to look for. The real question is after seeing and driving it, is it worth $2000 to you?

Correct me if I'm wrong,,,did that year still have the soft cam in it, the one that ate itself and the rest of the motor.?
look for rust, with the salt air in Fl. Use a magnet on the body, and look under the car to see frame rails and floor .
Regarding price, it's only worth what you feel you want to pay !

Thanks guys. I think I'll hold off & pay more for a V8 with lower miles.
