I'm removing the door panels from my 84 elky so I can replace the window felts, but I'm running into problems. Can anyone please tell a newbie how to remove the covers over the ends of the door pull strap so I can access the hidden screws? I thought they were just pry-off, but for the life of me I can't pry them off. I'm afraid I might damage them. Any tips or tricks???

Thanks

They are pry offs. I just use a pocket knife under the inside end and they pop right out.

No matter how careful you are, be prepared to break one or two. The plastic tabs that hold them in place are very fragile. If you do break one, the part number in on the inside of the cover. They are still available through your local GM dealer for a few bucks each.

You not going to break use a knife like he said and go at it

On an 84 door panel you need only remove the top section to replace the widow felts. After you get the strap end screws out remove the window crank handle (non electric windows) then the clips around the panel edge pop out.

Here is the neat thingabout this job, after you get the upper door panel off you can take it into the house and replace the felt in nice air conditioning and do the work on the kitchen table..........

I didn't know better and found out this is best practiced when your wife will not be home for a while !

I used a small "tweaker" screw driver to get mine off. Worked great. Not that the front one is different from the back. When I got my panel off I screwed up and took off the whole panel and only the top half is needed to take off. The inside felts are stapled in and I carefully removed them and used a 1/16th inch drill bit to redrill the holes through the metal. My biggest problem was that I replaced the roofrail weatherstrip and now need to adjust the window ... I am waiting to get into a really good mood for that as I understand it is a real bear...
