Hi there,
Do the Cabellero's (Sprints) follow the generational patterns of the El Camino ... and if so, what Generation is our '78 Caballero? I don't want to speak using the wrong terms, so please advise if I would say its X generation ... OR if being the first year as a Caballero it is its own first generation... don't make look uncool and speak like a geek!!
THANKS!!

im fairly sure that they do since they are the same body style, and if that is correct (like i THINK it is) then you have the first year of the 5th generation, wait for better knowledge from the right people though, most people just say cabby and we know what your talking about

Yes, the GMC Cabs/Sprints are the same body/generation/platform as the same year corresponding Elky. While technically, there were only 3 generations of Cabs/Sprints (which correspond to 3rd/4th/5th generations in Elkies), you can safely refer to your Cabby as a 5th gen (also known as a "G" body platform). To do otherwise would just confuse everyone anyway. Here's some good basic info on the Cabby/Sprint variants of the El Camino: http://www.chevelles.com/sprint/
BTW, you don't have to put discussion of your Cabby in other vehicle discussions forum. We consider Cabbys as part of the Elky family!

I think 71 was the first year and they were called sprints then changed to cabbys. All it is is an el camino with a gmc name. It's like the only difference between the new silverado and Sierra is the names
