Hello,
I 'm sanding my elky before paint and i d like to get some advice:
- What is the best way to remove the molding on the upper frame of the doors?
Do i have to remove the vents windows?
Are there some hidden bolts which hold them?
Are they just snap over the door frame?

Thanks for any help before destoying them by ignorance...

Aloha,

I did the same when I started the body work on my 85. The body trim (moulding) is held on my 3M tape. Just take a plastic bondo spreader and slide it under the front on one of the trim pieces. Once you get it started, the rest of it will peel right off.

The quarter window is different. it is held in by screws and adhesive. You must remove part of the interior trim to get to it. Unless you are doing a complete restoration or repair of that area, I woudn't remove it (the window) if I were you. If its not leaking, leave it alone and just tape it up before you paint.

Good luck.:nanawrench:

Thanks John, but i never saw a frame on the upper part of a 85 door !?
Are you talking about the moldings on the roof rails??

Mine is a 71 and i have a molding on the upper door frame around the door window.
I don't want to crush it when removing as they are in good condition.

So any help?

Thanks
David

PS: John, your avatar shows a beetle? are you an aircooled fan? i owned a restoration/parts shop for those aircooled some years ago...
