: Hot Rod Sunday Aug. 15- Palm Beach , Fl.
Lenny Carey 07-21-2010, 02:41 PM Hot Rod Sunday is back at the remodeled Palm Beach International Raceway Sun. Aug. 15 . The show features a car and truck show , drag racing and vendors . You may be aware that this show is for vehicles up to 1980 . I asked if later year El Caminos purchased a show car ticket but do not actually enter the judging , would we be allowed to park in the car show area and they said yes . Told me to just buy a ticket and come in . For info on the show go to www.racepbir.com . Who else is interested in coming ?
Carretera 07-21-2010, 03:22 PM Me in.
FL Kymino 07-21-2010, 05:52 PM Pretty sure I'm goin
464elky 07-22-2010, 05:42 AM It is too far for me to drive - can't afford the fuel so all donations will be accepted. I swear I will use them for fuel to get there.
strkpr00 07-22-2010, 06:36 AM count me out, still havent fixed the A/C, I am waiting for the wifes car to come back from the college intern this summer, my phantom 86 will make it to a show sooner or later. 464 too funny
rtatwk 07-22-2010, 06:47 AM I have to suffer the theme parks that weekend, so I will be closer to Old Town than PBIR. It is supposed to be for my BD (14th) but is really for others who have never been. Will try to stop by if I am headed back South at a reasonable time Sunday.
FL Kymino 07-22-2010, 07:21 PM I'll get my raingear and work the Southern Blvd exit tomorrow for you Neil.
hotcamino 07-23-2010, 07:46 AM I e-mailed Registration this morning.
If Neil doesn't have enough money for fuel for the loooooooooong trip, he surely won't have enough to Register...Please send your cash donations to me...I will make sure Neil gets them...only
CASH, checks and Credit Cards are not accepted.
FL Kymino, forget this weekend, too wet, not many traveling. Next couple of weekends will be fine.:poke:
Lenny Carey 07-24-2010, 04:56 AM Looks like you guys on the mainland got more weather than we did from this tropical storm . Instead of Key West , we should be called Key Lucky . I will also stand at the intersections and collect gas money for 464Elky . Maybe dress up like those ladies in white that look like nurses . If we have any extra money we can buy Edonthebeach that dual plane intake .
hotcamino 07-24-2010, 06:56 AM Up here in the Palm Beaches we got a few sprinkles and it blew by.
Glad you also faired well.
Dress up like a lady....NOT........how about a piece of cardboard and ragged clothes?
Good idea for the extra money (Edelbrock airgap dual plane Endurashine intake)!! Ed will like it.:smileyb:
skinyfisher 07-24-2010, 09:40 AM NEIL
You can have all the extra fuel money left over from the gas card that Lenny and Glenn are send me to drive Chromeo over to Palm Beach to join the group. All I realy will need than is a big BUG scraper to detail after an August drive down the turnpike!!!!!!!!!! Oh and someone to do the detail. Better yet send me the video that ed is not making, as I don't think he will make it either, just a guess!!!!!
If Lenny had not stolen your patent pending 25 MPG guaranted Carb that you made from scratch for me, by the way that was some speacial favor and I will try it when I catch up to what's his name.
464elky 07-24-2010, 03:31 PM I do appreciate all of your willingness to help me get a WHOLE gallon of fuel so I can make it. The next door neighbor volunteered the entry fee to get me away from the neighborhood for a day of peace and quite. Instead of an intake for Ed with any extra, I vote for a GPS. We can get him the one like they are using in that commercial where it tells the driver to make a hard left in fifteen feet.
Jay, Whats his name said it ran good for him - at least it didn't flood out. Had to be a tad rich on the small block. Whats his name could pay your gas bill to come. It would be cheaper than shipping it back to you.
skinyfisher 07-24-2010, 05:36 PM Tell what's his name to buy his gas form stations that filter it, saving a nickel by buying from that guy with the 55 gallon barrels at the dock in KEY WEST will get "foriegn Objects in your fuel" than in your "squirting claberator" and you get terribly close to a FIRE.
Shipping will be a lot cheap than feeding my big block (paper weight/anchor). I think he should just make a road trip and deliver it to my work bench and go to cruise night in the heat and rain and get a free meal. If it does what you say and gets 25MPG than I will CHROME it!!!!!!!!!!
464elky 07-25-2010, 05:41 AM Jay, I sure am glad you are going to be happy with 25 mpg as I had promised 45 overall on that BBC.
Oooooooooooooooh I forgot to tell you, if you chrome it you can only hope for about 15 - 16.
Carretera 07-25-2010, 03:17 PM Just when you think you are almost done, some lower than low life punk got in my car last night and took the tachometer and rear speaker panel, gladly the damage, physical and monetary was minimal.
hotcamino 07-25-2010, 04:40 PM That SUCKS!!!!!!!!
When you catch him, hang him by his thumbs for 2 days.
Then tell his parents to pay you for the damages, or he hangs by his thumbs 2 more days!
Many years ago I caught a Punk trying to hot wire my cool 49 Ford, with 283cu in Chevy motor.
I managed to keep most of his blood outside the car....I was very satisfied.
Sorry, Tony.
Lenny Carey 07-26-2010, 05:48 AM Tony , Sorry to hear about your Camino being violated . Had to be pretty upsetting . Thieves ; can`t live with them , and you are not allowed to pour gas on them and set them on fire any more . Skinny , on that carb . I was hoping you would forget about it so I could practice on taking it apart a few more times . I also don`t buy my gas from some old marina . I get a better price from that guy with the old rusty gas drums on the back of his ratty truck . With all the work that 464Elky did , I switched from using 93 octane to 87 and it seems to run great . I am sending in my registration today for Hot Rod Sunday . I had forgotten to do it . It saves $ 5 and gets me in quicker .
rtatwk 07-26-2010, 10:40 AM Sorry to hear about the theft Tony. I vote for hanging the thief by something else for at least 2 days! At least you can re-make that speaker panel and the black carpet should match pretty well since it was new. Still a bummer. Glad physical damage was a minimum. I was in Hialea Friday morning and the tropical storm was doin its thing there for sure!
Damn Tony! You should get an alarm, that's the first thing I bought for my Caballero. I don't trust these cubans in miami around my car, and I AM ONE! Born and raised in Hialeah too.
rtatwk 07-27-2010, 07:55 AM Welcome aboard Paki! My guess is that Carretera (Tony) will have an alarm very soon. Hook up with him to come to some of the meets. You can follow his trailer...lol Will be nice to have another Caballero in the bunch. My Son calls mine the beaner mobile. He says it is the Mexicans who are crazy about them. After all there are none in Cuba. I can attest to that because I was just there in April. Get a pic or 20 of your car up here soon! Sea seguro!...Randy:beer:
skinyfisher 07-27-2010, 08:30 AM Lenny pratice away its under warranty I have to send it back anyway as I have decided to give up some of the MPG and exchange it for the Chrome model version that Neil offered as I would still gain some MPG, but I have to pay the difference which is equal to the orginal cost, bummer $0.
Lenny, cheapest way to get the Carb to me will be give it back to Neil at your up coming meet so he can chrome it and then he can bring it with him to the GM show that way there is no cost to you (for Neil and I saving your ELky), (well maby just Neil) Either way that is what friends do and it worked out way good for you in a pinch. You better load up that elky with Gen 3 parts as I will expect you to have the proper part when I brake, and my crystal ball is broken so guess well Obywon!!!!
rtatwk 07-27-2010, 11:31 AM :dontknow: Jay I thought that Neil said that 'if you chrome it' the MPG's would drop.
Lenny Carey 08-03-2010, 06:29 AM I just received an email from Julie Korkowski , the Director at PBIR and she said that Don ( car show Director ) , has decided to raise the eligible year from 1980 to 1990 . In addition to allowing in more vehicles this means that those of us that are newer than 1980 are now eligible to be judged and removes any doubts about getting in , where to park etc . Let others know about it .
Lenny Carey 08-10-2010, 05:24 AM Well boys and girls it`s almost time for the show . I`m driving up Sat. to spend the night and will plan on getting to PBIR by 9 to 9:30 a.m. Richard , who owns M and M Speed and Mikey that we met at last Winterfest are planning on coming also . For those interested check out www.mandmspeed.com . For those not aware they have a full range of El Camino products . Worth a look . We will try to save some spots next to each other if possible . Who else is coming and approximately what time ?
hotcamino 08-10-2010, 06:26 AM Hotcamino will be there 9:30 am.
Lenny Carey 08-11-2010, 08:27 AM I was just on www.mandmspeed.com and got a little info . Rich talked with PBIR and they said parking is 1 st come 1 st served and suggested that we meet outside the gate around 8:45 to 9 a.m. Drive in together and park ever other space where we could slip in others . He said that probably 10 others from M and M Speed are planning on coming which would be cool . I do not know how many are El Caminos but it would be nice if we are able to have the Caminos next to each other . I will try and get there early enough but you know me . If I havent`t had time to swim around inside my cup of Cuban coffee I`m not fully awake . Who besides Hot Camino is coming ? Paki , are you still looking for a center console ?
rtatwk 08-11-2010, 03:47 PM Lenny I know it is tough to swim in one of those tiny cups of the Cuban coffee. Been there done that. I am still going to try to stop by but I will be on my way back South after a Disney weekend and will be driving something with better MPG's than the Caballero. So I won't need a parking space in the show area. Someone must promise to get video if Hotcamino runs the drag strip! Looks like Paki was having starter trouble today and a solenoid change wasn't much help. Hope he makes it. I printed off an app for that cars of dreams show sponsored by the same club on 10/17 and will have that in my sights. Hotcamino posted a thread on that one. And I'm still game for a get together in the keys! Hope to see you guys Sunday...I will be one year older and none the wiser! Randy
Carretera 08-11-2010, 07:06 PM Meeting place: Pompano Beach Service Plaza Mile Post 65 (Trailer Parking Area)
Time: 7:00am to 7:30am
Departure: 7:45am
Donuts: On me :smileyb::smileyb::smileyb::smileyb::smileyb::smil eyb:
We should arrive at the speedway around 8:45am
Lenny Carey 08-12-2010, 06:33 AM Randy , Glad to hear you may be able to stop by the show on your way home . Wish you a happy birthday and that your trip was a good one. I read Tony is bringing it , so be careful when you enter the show that you don`t get run over by Carretera`s trailer . I wonder if he is bringing that barbecue grill ?
Man, I wasn't able to get the day off from work, wish I could be there with the rest of you guys, have fun!
EDIT: actually i work at 4 PM, it's a 2 hour drive back, and since everyone is going so early, it actually might be worth it, so it might actually come down to how easily i wake up Sunday morning at 5 to make the drive after working until 1 AM....
FL Kymino 08-12-2010, 05:47 PM I'll try for the outside at 8:45 but I'll need Tony to save a few donuts for me. Will they be barbecued?
464elky 08-13-2010, 03:00 AM If it is a big show the entrance will be backed up all the way to the road. We might want to meet at the store just south of the entrance ( about a mile). they are not going to just let you sit in the driveway.
hotcamino 08-13-2010, 07:38 AM Pick a time and place, I'll be there..........
Lenny Carey 08-13-2010, 07:58 AM Since we would like to park together I think Neil`s advise to meet at the store about a mile South of the track is good and I will be there . We could then drive in together . Neil , do you know the name of the store . I will try to park out in the front of the store to be seen better if possible . I will also put this up on www.mandmspeed.com site since several of the guys on that site plan of coming .
464elky 08-13-2010, 08:19 AM Sorry, I can't find the name of the gas station/store but it is just South of the raceway. It may even be closed which would really make a good place to sit and wait to join up.
Lenny Carey 08-13-2010, 08:51 AM Neil , This sounds good as I think you are right in that we would be in the way if we tried meeting up at the entrance . I put a post up on www.mandmspeed.com on the Hot Rod Sunday forum and sent Rich and Tony my cell # . Several of them are meeting up about 50 miles South of the track . I asked they call me or you , ( if Tony has your # ) , to let us know when they are close so we can come in with them if it works out time wise . I will drive up Sat. to be there for Sunday morning .
464elky 08-13-2010, 11:27 AM Lenny you are going to have to really get up early Sunday to drive over here to deliver Ellie's sausage and still get to the track on time.
For those of you that don't know - that is Ellie (Lenny's buddy) making sure the body is strapped on to DOT standards.

Carretera 08-13-2010, 07:06 PM I heard a few mentions about Paki and I thought is was an inside joke, I see that he is a new member, looking forward to meeting him.
Barbque donuts now that's a new one.
Well Tony, I look forward to meet you as well (and the rest of you guys), but this weekend that will probably not be possible due to a fuel leak in my car. So unless I turn into a pro mechanic in the next 24 hours, I'm not going to be able to make it.
464elky 08-15-2010, 04:38 AM Getting ready to head that way in just a few minutes. See ya there.
Carretera 08-16-2010, 04:21 PM Great show, any time you can get together with your friends is a good time. Thanks Rich and Becky (M & M Speed and Custom) for lunch.
Between M & M and Necoa we had a total of 11 cars,
1 41 Willys
5 5th gen
2 3rd gen
1 Malibu wagon
1 Malibu
1 70 Stingray
Four first place trophies were won.
It was a very hot and humid summer day but we were rewarded with some early afternoon rain to cool us down.
I broke down while in line to get in the show, a start circuit relay burnt, Neil 464elky quickly diagnosed the problem jumped some wires and got me on the way, Glenn Hot Camino bough a relay in the swap meet area gave it to me and Neil quickly installed it, on the way home I stopped by Neil's house and he gave me a new in the box 5" tach to replace the one that was stolen from me, thanks guys.
FL Kymino 08-16-2010, 06:56 PM Good time! So hot they gave HotCamino a well deserved 1st place to cool it down.
Neil was like a McGuyver with his mini Swiss army knife diagnosing Tony's problem. Had him running in a couple of minutes but it shut down againafter a few yards. Seems like somebody also shut off their fuelpump? lol
Glad you mentioned this show Lenny!
Thanks Rich and Becky for lunch and the shade!
EdontheBeach 08-17-2010, 04:55 PM where are the pics for those of us who are engine-less at the moment?!
Lenny Carey 08-18-2010, 07:07 AM How Hot was it ? Well the next time I say it`s too hot in Key West I will add " but not as hot as Hot Rod Sunday " . The good news is that the rain came through later and really made it comfortable . Bad news is that it shut down the drag racing and the members that had planned to do a run down the track . The M and M members that brought the three tents made the day and we enjoyed sitting , taiking and enjoying Rich and Becky`s hospitality and great food . Best food I`ve ever had at a car show . Check out www.mandmspeed.com . They are in Davie , Fl. and give us discounts . Rich`s beasty El Camino and Mikey`s rad Willys were too cool . It was enjoyable to see ECC members great looking rides . There were a lot of interested spectators and 464 Elky , Fl Kymino , Carretera and Hot Camino looked great and we were parked right up front near the entrance with a view of the cars running the road course . The bargain of the day was the guy that bought the nice 70 Camino rear bumper for about $ 50 . I was having so much fun I forgot to take any photos . Did any one take some ? Hey , Tony gets a new 5 in. tack and Hot Camino gets a really attractive plaque for 1 st place . Not a bad day !
rtatwk 08-18-2010, 02:27 PM I really wanted to stop by but the disney weekend wore me out. We stopped by Old Town for just a bit Sunday and then came by Palm Bay to my house before heading back to Miami. Yuyi and my Grandaughters are crazy about each other! Lenny I bet you know just what she (Yuyi) started on as soon as she got here and our brief stop was over 3 1/2 hours! At least I got to see the NASCAR race before we left here around 4. A little late to make a stop in West Palm. I am truly bummed that there is no video of Hotcamino running the strip! Conrgats to him and the other winners and I hope to at least see some pics soon..... Randy
rtatwk 08-18-2010, 02:32 PM BTW...You have disrespected the 'Outlaw Grill' with your generous compliment to another's cooking. I mean no disrespect to them here...only humor...Hope Carretera doesn't notice!
Lenny Carey 08-18-2010, 04:36 PM Yeah , Those burgers and dogs from the " Outlaw Grill " , at Winterfest were damn good . Tony came through with a big box of donuts ( not doughnuts ) . I think every one of them got eaten . I`m still laughing about Chuck`s comment that he is waiting to see the barbecued donuts . I thought that the design on Hot Camino`s 1 st place award plaque from PBIR was well done . I think the highlight for the little kids was getting to splash their feet in the mud puddles during the awards presentations .
hotcamino 08-19-2010, 09:57 AM I had the camera...forgot to take pictures...only took 2.
My Grandson AJ rode with me. He enjoyed the show, and really liked the Elco MandM Speed brought...the food too!

rtatwk 08-20-2010, 08:45 AM That is still the best 87 Ford ranger I have ever seen Glenn...:poke:
hotcamino 08-21-2010, 06:40 AM Randy, it's in the "Modified Truck" catagory...
