I have a 79 el camino. the turn lever is the cruise control version. Cruise doesn't work (I couldn't see myself using cruise even if it worked). The lever is going to break off any day and I'm looking to replace it. Question, do I have to replace it with a cruise version lever or should the plain lever work just as well.
thanks.

That is just what happen to mind and we just took the cruise control off and every thing works just fine with a plain lever. Hope that helps:smile3::smile3: Mind is a 80 Caballero Rango

I still have the cruise stick in mine but cut the wires years ago. everything else works fine.

Cut the wires off, and pull the old stick out. Any GM signal stick, from that era, will just click in.All other functions if installed, wiper, washer, etc, are activated in the column and wired down from there.

Something like this will work fine for you. It still have the cruise control and I would get it even if you never hook it up. Just in the future you sell the El Camino you can say you still have the cruise control even those it is not hooked up.

The plug size, length of wire and number of wires changed from '79 to '84. Yes, an '84 might fit physically but the wires would be wrong.
Others will correct me if I'm wrong. :nanawrench: Yes, the non-cruise
control mechanisms will insert properly and the turn, wipers, etc.
should operate.

My Elco project will have cruise. And I wish my Malibu did. Us old geezers like cruise:smileyb: I get on the expressway often, for about eight miles, and use it there in my truck.
My old Caddy beater has it too, and it actually works !

I would love to have cruise control. Just yank it out and I'll send you my non cruise turn signal stalk.:smileyb:

Cruise control is a must have for me, I use it all the time an have checked the same rod trip using and not using the Cruise control and it is worth about 1.25 MPG average in a 200 mile run. I have an after market Audiovox system very simple small and easy to hide if you wish to cost is $95.00 plus your time to install and works very good.
I would put it back and make it work even if you don't use it, you may wish to sell in the years or days to come and it will be a good thing.
