My '79 has a stock 267 V8 in it and I have a 4 bolt 350 lined up for a transplant. Has anyone heard of someone beefing up the 267 to get it to breathe more fire, and if so, how much HP can I get out of it? It runs fine, and I thought it would make a nice spare for when I want to work on the 350.

Once you drop in that 350, I will not want to mess with the 267 again I would think.

It would make a nice boat anchor too. :-D

Spend your money on a spare 350 instead of trying to beef up that POS 267.

you guys underestimate small cubic inch small blocks They aren't the best motor out their but you can put some grunt in them. They aren't a "POS" because they are dead realiable motors if treated right.

Well.. They might not be POS to some, but to others they are. Ya, theres some great running small cube motors out there, but look @ the money that has to be put into them. You can buy a 350 crate motor for around what 3 grand? And it makes 330hp.. To get a 267 to make 330hp, your gonna be putting in well over 5 grand because of the quality of parts your gonna need to get it to put out that much.

So in a sense, ya, they are POS motors.. but if you dont give a **** and have money coming out of your ass, then great, soop up a 267 :D But i know most of us cant afford to do that, nor think its even appropriate. Why have a 267 under the hood, when a 400 fits the same?

If you'd like a free 267 long block to rebuild, I'll give you one for free. You've got to come and pick it up. Just give me a day or two notice so I can fish it out of the pond.

just break it down clean up the parts and sell them...i didnt that with an old 305 i broke down everything cleaned them up and just started selling stuff...you will be amazed with what people buy on ebay...Or keep it as a spare like you planned, and save some money if you ever decide to pull out the 350 to do some work on it....It always stinks when you have a motor pulled and for some reason you cant finish it..So its goood to have a spare...POS or not It will still get you from one point to another while you are workin on the 350.

i was thinking of keeping my 267 when i drop a 350 in. but i assure that it is not a POS. those are good little engines. the fact that it has been powering my car for 22 years(with out an overhaul) should be enough to prove that it is a good engine. while it does not have the power and HP of a 350 it keeps going. sorry just i like those little engines and i got offended.
