Ive been fighting with this thing for almost a week now. I finally found the problem. Under the hood on the left passenger side is a vacuum pod. What this does is block heat from the engine compartment from coming into the ac ducts. At least, I think that is what is does.I pulled it out to check to see if the vacuum pod was working. I found that the vacuum pod wasnt working, diaphram probably ruptured, I also found a big hole in the plastic door itself.I pulled the pod and the door out and crammed a rag in the vent to block the heat. Now I am getting 60 degree air from the vents.
When I got this elcam, it had been sitting for almost 10 years. I guess a mouse had a door for supper.
The good news is I found the problem, the bad news is, the door and the vacuum pod is almost a hundred bucks from OPG. Does anyone have one laying around by any chance? I also need a new blower wheel for the blower fan. I guess the mouse ate some of it too, cause some of the fins are missing.
Thanks for all yall guys help. I really appreciate ya.:You_Rock:
Terry.

:You_Rock: glad to learn you made some progress.
Your description of the "Vacuum Pod" is difficult to
relate to my '82 El Camino. What is the part number
of the item you found at OPG? This might be a case
of a picture being worth a thousand words. You
might be describing the re-circ damper I mentioned
to you in a previous response.

The blower motor rotating element (fan rotor) is
easily found in auto salvage yards. Probably best
to buy motor with rotor as it plastic, brittle due to
age and might be difficult to pull from the shaft.

Glad you made some headway.

Here are the part numbers from the elcaminostore. The door is part number 07-2323 and the vacuum pod for it is 07-2321. Also, I went to the junk yard for a blower motor. There are no elcams arond here in the wrecking yard. I pulled out out of a later model chevy truck. It is about an inch wider than mine. I didnt get it cause I didnt know if it would fit.The one from opg and the elcamino store is metal , mine is platic.

Metal of course would be better. I should have
mentioned you will encounter different sizes.
I'm not familiar with your '70 model, but later
year El Camino owners will find what they need
in the "G-body" cars. Thanks for the part numbers.

I think the price is fair for the vacuum actuator. I
encounter this type actuator in HVAC systems and
the price they ask is not toooo bad. How about
the door? IF all outside edges are intact, you can
probably put a plastic patch over the hole. JB
weld should hold for quite a few more years.

Regards to all. :texas:

10-4 on the mice troubles...They had chewed the ribbon for the dash gauges in mine...lol. Metal duct work tape may patch that door for you too. And it can be painted to match after installation.

Check your nearest Picknpull they just might have it cheap, you can check inventories online at www.picknpull.com (http://www.picknpull.com) Monte Carlos,Cutlass and Regals should be the same but I suggest that you take the old one out so that you can fisically see what you need.
