This one worked well for me several years ago and I just learned the IT geeks at the old workplace pulled it off again today in my honor (I retired last July) People are flocking to get their garbage bags! :lol:

Subject: Network Maintenance

Due to some recent network connectivity problems, the tech team will be "cleaning" the network in the entire building this evening by blowing compressed air through the network lines. Because of the possibility of dust, dirt and ether escaping from the network cables, we are asking everyone to stop by the tech area and pick up a plastic bag(s). Please COMPLETELY cover your monitor and computer before you leave today. If anyone has a printer in their office, pick up an additional bag and cover the printer. Labelwriters, external zip drives and PDAs do NOT have to be covered. When you pick up your bag(s) please add your name to the sign in sheet. We are planning on starting around 6:15. If anyone plans on still being here, let me know. Thank you in advance for your help.

You usually get at least 15 or so suckers. The best part is that it can go on for days as the people that are out of the office get back and read their emails and don't pay any attention to when it was sent. You need the leave the pile of gabage bags out for several days.

No idea why they fall for it - they never believed anything that tech support told them before.
