Anyone here have experience using an Edelbrock 1405 carb on a Performer RPM Aluminum high rise intake? (model #1701 for sbc).
We were going to use the 1406 until I went on Edelbrock's Web site and read
that they did not recommend the 1406 for use with the RPM intake.Instead, it stated that the 1405 was designed to function well with the Performer RPM intake.
Both carbs are rated at 600 cfm.
While their site was clear about the performance characteristics and function from one to the other, I am not familiar with the 1405 being used with the Performer RPM intake.
The engine is a 1979 Target master 350, bored .030 over, roller rockers, mild cam, etc.
Thanks!

the 1406 is Calibrated 2% leaner than Edelbrock 1405 (http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=467) carb.:poke::dontknow:

Well,Thank You gilby!
So...That's It?
Sorry for the rhetoric but why can't the 1406 be tuned to do the same? :dontknow:
Thanks for the comeback Dude!

Thanks much Dude!
Yah, I do know that the 1405 is manual and that it was convertible to electric.
A good friend of mine suggested that I go with the 1406 and that I would be able to deal with the "curve factor" after I get the motor fired.
I am inclined to follow his logic.
I am still looking for further input.
Thanks much again!

I used a Carter AFB with an electric choke for years (1406 is a copy of an AFB with elec. choke)
With a Performer RPM. Honestly unless you have a cam and headers that can take advantage
of the airflow you might be disappointed. The RPM is designed to work from 1500 to 6500RPM while
the non-RPM works from idle to 5500 which is perfect for a street engine.
I actually found that acceleration wasn't as good and at higher speeds the power band flattened out.
The addition of a stall converter might have helped to flash the RPM's to a higher speed to get the engine into the RPM's power band faster but then we start getting further and further away from a street engine as you have to upgrade other parts to compensate for the changes from the previous ones.

Edelbrock has earned it's reputation with a long line of performance products. They do extensive R&D on their parts, and if they suggest a particular combination you can bet they have tried different combo's and know what they're talking about. My $0.02.

I just converted a 1405 to electric choke and the kit was $7X.00 just by itself. Is there that much difference in the original cost of the two? The best I remember the tuning kit is about 70 - 80 bucks as well.
