cant find info on stamped #'s on rear axle. They are: 6AX C2201... can anyone help?

Information from my Caballero service manual...

6AX C2201

6AX is the Axle code. That is all my book says, no further explaination is given.

C means that the axle was manufactured by Chevrolet.

220 means the manufacturing date was the 220th day of the year.

1 means the 1st employee shift at the plant.

I will try to find more information on the 6AX for you.

From the information there I am fairly sure that AX means a 2.73:1 non posi rear axle.

2.73 ratio (non posi) made in the Buffalo plant on the 220 day of the year on day shift.

Ditto. AX was 2.73 non-posi, and BX was 2.73 posi.
