I had my 118k miles 305 elky on the dyno today.. I was quite surprised at how well it performed.
I removed the comp. contr. carb+ distr., and added a rochester and a hei. i changed the timing curve, retarded the ignition to 36total at 3000rpm, new plugs. Restored the carburator. Added a performer intake, hooker super comp. headers with true duals and an h pipe in 2,5". Removed the ac as well. Larger airfilter as well.
Anyways, it dynoed in a 230hp/5000rpm and 425nm/3300rpm
i have stated earlier it was quite peppy for a 305, and I guess i was right. Pretty nice gains for such small mods. but the seat og the pants feel is equivalent of it. It is still a deadbeat below 3000rpm, but this engine still has stock heads and cam.
it's an 87 btw. stock hp is 160 ive been told.
just wanted to share with you that giving your old tired 305 a new lease on life on a budget is possible.
