My grandfather has a 73 El Camino with a brand new 350 small block in it. It has some chrome missing and a few dents but besides that it only need a new fuel pump. He said he'd sell it to me for 800 dollars is it worth it ?

Just from what you said, I would say yes it is worth the 800. Even if all you got was a decent 350, it would be worth it.
More and more manufactures are making replacement parts for these 4th gens and I see more parts for them on Ebay.
How is the frame?? Is it registered and on the road?

I'm pretty partial to the 3rd gen's, but if I could have two Elky's, I would get a '73 Elky SS with those nice swivel buckets.......

I don't see how you could go wrong on this deal. The engine is worth that with a fresh rebuild. Sounds like your Grandfather is doing a good deal just for you. Go for it.

From your description, assuming that it is not a rust bucket, it should bring at least $1500 on Ebay.
