i have decoded the vin number i believe and i am working on the cowl tag. here is what it looks like

VIN 1d80u6r476113. what i got from this is, it is a 76 chevy el camino custom 2door pickup made in arlington texas and came with a 400 v-8

first question is this correct and does this make it a true ss? it has the sport mirrors and the chrome drip edge, rally wheels, and an ss stripe going around it fender to tail gate and back to other fender. dash is covered with an aftermarket pad so rare chance of finding the ss emblem on the dash.

here is my cowl tag

ST 76 1AD80 R 150423 BDY
TR 74N A65 37L 37U PNT

03B 080243

what i got from this is 76 chevy el camino 2door truck that has a bench seat with armrest and the outside color is mahogany poly. not sure of the color. i can not for the life of me find anything on the 74N. any help would be greatly appreciated. this vehicle is going to paint and haveing some small things done to the inside. well should say major cause the driver door has completely had it.

74N is the trim code for Mahogany vinyl trim

About the best I can describe Mahogany is deep reddish brown

Z15 SS package was mostly trim decor and I know of no way to prove SS optioned from vin and trim tag. Likely the exterior is original, then probably has the SS option..

The best thing you could do is find the build sheet. I know that some of the SS 5th Gen's have Z15 on the cowl tag to indicate that its an SS, but a lot of the SS's dont have it on the cowl. My 1983 SS does not have Z15 on the cowl tag, but does indicate Z15 on the build sheet. If you can find the build sheet (usually under the driver seat or in headliner) your questions will be answered.
