Ok guys, here's my delema. I'm sure many of you have had the same problem. I have an idea in my head for what I want my car to be, but need help with info.
I would like to propose that the guys on here who have tricked out their rides post specs in an area of the site so others can use for quick reference. I don't know about you, but I feel like a tool when I have to keep asking questions.
EX:
rim and tire size, include back spacing
which cowl hoods, how was it ?did it fit or was there alot of work?
tranny swap say if you have a 700r4 was it easy what's entailed?
engine specs
suspension upgrades.
Post the info with a pic so that newbies like myself can get an idea of what they want.
by the way, can anyone give me wheel and tires specs on this car? Please include backspacing.

This sounds like a good idea but there are some problems. For example in regards to the 5th Gen I have seen several members post info on wheel backspacing claiming that they are using wheels with 5" of backspacing. On my 1979 I know that a wheel with 5" of backspacing couldn't physically be bolted to the rear much less work. Now either they have a non OEM chassis or diff housing or they don't know what backspacing is. In any case all info you get from this forum is subject to interpretation.

I just put some Rally (Vette Style ) wheels on my 85 El Camino and they were 15x7's with 4 1/2 inch back spacing with 255X60X15 tires on the rear and there is still enough clearance where the Tire & wheel won't rub but you are not going to be able to go much bigger than that . Hope this helps someone .

a lot of mine is in the Signature. Working on the tire size and diff ratio. BTW what's not in my signature: HT 400 w/ shift-kit. 10:1 compression. 72 camaro heads, flowmasters!. other than that can't think of anything else.

Post what else you want to know!

Thanks guys,
Thats' the type of info I was talking about. I know it will help me and I'm sure it will help other.
I have an 80 that I'm working on now. The engine is at the shop now, Mike Janis the 2001 IHRA pro mod champ is doing it for me. I work for the pro mod team as the team manager. Early estimates are 450 hp.
I have an 8.5 rear with 3:73's and for now I'm sticking with the th 350 with a 2800 stahl converter.
I'm not decided on what look I'm going for yet. Lowered with 17's or front drop spindels with stock rear springs and fat 15's?

I appreciate everyones help.

I think your stall coverter is a bit steep for any length of time on the street. IT's just gonna heat up your tranny and I know I've blown up two TH350's with just 2200 RPM stall coverters. All I was running was a mildly modified TH 350 with a 3.08 rear gear too.

I switched up to a TH400 with a pretty stock 1900 STall speed and mildkly reworked valve body for a bit firmer shifts.

I have been a lot happier with this setup . Especially with the absence of that annoying whine from the stall converter that I used to get. The last one sounded like a CAn full of marbles when it was finally done in.
