My 81 Camino's got a bad EGR valve. The engines a 267, and I can't find a new one anywhere. AC Delco no longer makes one for my engine, and any other brands I try, make my sweet baby run worse. Any suggestions?

Get rid of the egr valve ;/.. If you need emissions, just fake it, run hoses up and over to nowhere :) No real need to have it IMO

Use one from a 305.

When my EGR went bad, I could watch the knocks counting up on my scan tool while cruising down the highway.

Before disabling anything, figure out what it's for and what the consequnces will be. Just because it's an emissions component, doesn't mean you should get rid of it.

Some of the aftermarket units are "tunable" by using different size orifices (washers). Use the smallest one that still gets rid of all the knock.

The EGR valve works by recycling some exhaust gas back into the intake manifold which dilutes the air/fuel mixture and cools the combustion chambers during combustion. The cooler combustion chamber makes the engine more resistant to detonation. If the disconnected EGR causes detonation you can use higher octane fuel or retard timing to get rid of the knock.
