: 5th Gen. Window Weatherseals- HOW DO YOU GET TO SEAL?!!

OK, This is probably one of the oldest questions posted here, but for me is a sanity robbing myth I am trying with all my ability to make a reality.

Who has been successful in getting their 5th gen. door glass to properly seal against the upper drip channel weather seal??!! I have had the problem on both my old 83, and now on my new 84 where the window sits on the outside of the seal, and wind just howls in!

I have brand new seals installed and have tried playing with the adjustment in the doors, and even played with repositioning the mounting channel, and still can't get the windows to roll up "inside the weather seal channel . My thinking is that the window is supposed to rest inside the raised lip on the upper seal, as well as butt into the center of the seal on the front and rear edges, right? Both my doors have sound healthy hindges, so I don't readily think it's that , but even taking out the window's adjusting stops doesn't help?!!

If anyone has a pic or two and a clue of how these are acutually supposed to be positioned and get the proper seal, PLEASE HELP!! Post the answer, I know there are many of us that are fed up with living with this annoyance.

A MILLION THANKS...IN ADVANCE

I have had some luck with the aftermarket seal sets, ie, softseal, metro etc, but have been most sucessful with oem seals. Regardless, it takes a lot of tweaking of the door glass. I posted an adjustment article a year of so ago and will see if I can dig it up. Nonetheless, there is no easy answer or advise I can offer except that of a lot of work and patience.

Is the clip that holds the door glass against the seal missing? Without the clip at freeway speeds the glass will be sucked away from the seal and leak air. I replaced the door glass seals and adjusted the glass against the seals with no particular problem. On my 1979 I quieted down the interior from wind noise by sealing the windshield mouldings. At speed wind between the moulding and glass/A pillar can be pretty noisy.

I would also suggest that you check for that clip. Sometimes its lost in the transform. Sometimes it needs to be pulled in some. Over the years they loose a little. So sometimes pulling them in will fix that issue.

I would never had thought about sealing the windshield moldings. I'll try that trick, Thankx. :D

Also I would use body and seam sealer, I can get it at the Local O'Rielly's Auto store, most of them. Use it all along the drip molding between the molding and roof lines. It will seal that up and it really needs to be or it will leak especially with something like a car wash. It can cause the post to rust and get inside the interior in the back causing more rust there. Its not always an obvious leak either.

Just my $.02 worth

Thanks everyone for the suggestions thus far.

Yeah, the little black clips in the top front corners are still in tact/great shape and have the window snug at that corner of the glass... only.

Tomorrow I am going to post a couple of pics here to possibly detail my situation a little better, maybe you might see things better by actually looking at the real thing. I will take shots form both the inside and out..... with the door closed, right?!!

More to come.

I really appreciate you all taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions. Theres nothing better than solution by experience.

I used some of the 1/4" sticky foam under the backside of my seals it helped quite a bit.

I have more trouble getting the window to roll up inside the wind clip..
But that problem is in the plastic window guide it is cracked. I bought new ones now to figure out how to replace them.
