I am currently being tempted by a 80 El Camino with a well built 327. This Elky has power everything, and a decent, if dirty interior. The paint is fair, and all the trim is present, if not in great condition. The floors and bed are solid. Only visible rust is below the quarter windows. The owner is a motivated seller. He quoted me a price of $2200, but I believe that I can have it for less. Does this sounds like a fair deal? I can upload pics later on if it would help. Thanks for any and all advice!

It's in the ballpark for a decent running 80. But shouldn't you focus on getting that 77 running first. :-D

Focus?? What's that??
Honestly, I have become frustrated with the lack of parts availability for the 73-77 Elkys, and I am considering a move to the 5th gen G body elky. I lusted after the '87 SS when it was new, so it's not like that would be a new interest for me. There just seems to be a lot more goodies available for the 5th gen from places like Honest Charleys, Lauren Engineering, etc. My 77 seems to have been forgotten by aftermarket and restoration parts manufacturers. :(

that's great price if every thing is desently restored. The lowest I'd say you might get it would be $1900. Please follow up and tell us how it comes out!

I got my 84 with 305 for 2k, and its in around that condition
I paid $3,000.00 for my 78 El Camino and it's got a few issues. But then again it's got a rust free body with no dents, and I bought it from a auto museum.

Just check Ebay for comparably priced El Caminos.

When buying a used car I always put a premium on the vehicle being rust free and check carefully for previous collision repair. I know that a vehicle with rust can be repaired but often the cost of repairing the rust is just not worth it especially with so many 5th Gens to pick from. Why buy a less than solid car? From your discription the asking price ounds fair to me.
