Thought I read here somewhere about manifold coatings, like to keep the rust away, etc. Anyone done this??

It looks like I'm gonna use manifolds instead of fooling with finding headers that will fit without a lot of extra work (and fighting rusty pipes)
I'm gonna de-burr and clean up the stock Caddy manifolds, and use a coating of some sort on them.......

I did my manifolds with POR-15 "Manifold Gray" about 7-8 years ago. Manifolds were removed, scrubbed and cleaned with various drill-powered wire brushes. Finally, after a year of daily driving it started to wear thin in spots, and I was able to touch them up without removal. I've heard a lot of favorable comments about Eastwood's manifold dressing product, but haven't any personal experience.

Thanks Bill.
I'll look into the POR stuff.

Have you considered a local powdercoater to see what the cost of a ceramic coating would be?

Someone posted about Slip Plate dry lube a while back. Haven't tried it myself.

I have some Eastwood stuff coming, it's black. If it becomes a problem, then ceramic will be next. There is a local place that does ceramic coating. I talked to them a while back about headers etc. I'm cutting all the nubs off the manifolds, that were cast in for machining at the factory etc, and may smooth the rough castings a bit.
Thanks for the responses:smileyb:

We'll see.......

I have the manifolds ready for the coatings. I ground all the excess metal off, like flashing, and generally de-burred everything.
Grinding and sanding cast iron is a dirty business, as folks who have done porting and polishing on heads etc know.
