i have a 87 gmc caballero with a 700r4 it seems to be shifting early than what it should. i took it to my local drag strip and with the pedal to the floor it wld shift around 3500 and my 1/4 mile times were slow 16.80 i know the motor is built for alot of horsepower but i feel like my tranny is causing my slow time. i raced my buddy car with 4:10 gears and i would be him in the 1/8 mile but he wld fly pass me by the time my car hit 2nd gear and his car is 1000lbs heavier than mine. can anyone give me some info on what it might be

Does it shift correctly at the right RPM and or speed in normal driving on the street? If it does and what your trying to do is raise the shift points, for the strip once set correctly for the use a silver sharpie and mark the plastic nub that sticks out of the TV cable around the cable once you have it marked open the throttle wide open and on the side of the cable housing behind the bracket there sould be a button press it in and the cable should pop out a little ways therefore raising the shift points,if it now is to high press the button in and hold while pushing that nub back in and once you get the shifting pattern you want take the sharpie and mark the nub again this all being said DO NOT LEAVE IT THIS WAY FOR NORMAL DRIVING set it back to the original mark so it operates correctly.Setting the TV cable like this causes excessive slippage for normal driving and has been the downfall of many a transmission.
All in all I don't recommend doing this except for a one time thing as the trans should be built to match the engine and what you are using it for!

You might think of getting a shift kit for it. You will want one down the road anyhow. It will help alot.
if you have super tall gears its never gonna be very quick till ya change em out.

Are you shifting manually, or just starting out in drive? I'm not too familiar with the 700 except that my wife's Caddy has one. I haven't tried running it up through the gears manually..(I'll try it when she isn't in it with me :smileyb:)

are you running the same carb that came with the 700?? is the throttle linkage for the tv right??
as said,,,double, double check the tv adjustment,,,if its not right,it wont last long...
how does it act when you shift it manually?? is the tack right??:texas:
