Has anyone changed out the stock shocks of their 5th gen. to KYB shocks and if so was it an improvement and which ones did you get.
Thanks

Mike,
I think asking someones opinion on automotive shocks is kind of like asking who has the best Chili! Everyone has a different opinion. I CAN tell you I have the KYB gas a just shocks on the FRONT of my 82 Elky that I bought to replace the Monroe yellow shocks that were on it. Still have the air shocks on the rear. I think the KYBs were definitley an improvement over those Monroes. I'm sure there are better shocks out there than the KYBs but most of them cost a lot more too.
For a $30-$40 shock I think I got my moneys worth but there again if YOU use them you may hate them. I personally wasn't looking for canyon carver high dollar performance shocks so I'm satisfied with them. Good luck with whatever you choose to use.

I have QA-1's on my Elky front and air on the rear but I just put four on a 56 Thunderbird that had 25year old FoMoCo's on and they are great compared to what I started with!!! That should be a lot of help??
Have used K's in the past and the Gas-A-Just for the money are a good deal, paid $33 each for the ones I just got no shipping through my local speed shop. I believe summit is around that number pluss shipping.

Changed out the stock front shocks on my 87 with KYBs. Like eveyone else I feel they are a good value for the money. Not a high performance shock, just a mild upgrade. At almost 66 yrs old mild upgrade is all I can handle. Younger Elco owners would probably want a more performance type shock along with the higher cost. Its your El Camino. Take some feedback and build your ride. Brian Boru

I've used KYB gas-adjust shocks on a couple BMWs with good results. They are fairly stiff, but if you plan to toss a big car around they will help keep it all in control. When I ordered KYBs for the ElCamino, I received GR2 instead of gas-adjust. GR2 is a lower gas pressure, and probably not as stiff damping. But they still control the ElCamino with lower (has to be stiffer) springs. And as others have said, the price is right.
