Have any of you guys converted your 5th gen. tailights to have BOTH lights on each side to blink as a turn signal instead of two tailights but just one blinker light per side like they came out with? If so, what all was involved?
I know the single light that doesn't blink would have to be changed over to the two element 1157 type socket but what about the wiring?
My guess is you would just need to (after changing to two element socket) tap that socket into the existing turn signal socket wiring. Am I thinking correctly here and would that make turn signals out of both lamps on each side?

Should work fine the way you outline it. You 'may' have to switch to a heavier flasher to run the additional bulbs, but it probably won't be an issue.

Sounds like a good idea!

i use the LED BULBS because they draw much less current and are much brighter

x2 on the LED BULBS, cost alittle more but are worth it, if for no other reason to keep people from hitting your baby.

Melcamino,
When you say you used LEDs are you talking about the type that just slips in like a regular 1157 bulb with the two little prongs on each side or are you talking about some other type ?

right now i am using the 1157 bulb type an in the process of trying to order the strip type can be found on flea bay but you will have to dissassemble the tail light housing would like to accuire a spare set first in case i screw up

Well, I thought this was a good idea until I took the tailight out of the bumper and discovered the sockets in the tailight portion are NOT the regular type sockets like the brake light portion has. The tailight portion uses those little push in type bulbs like the side marker lights have instead of the 1157 type bulbs and sockets the brake lights have. A regular 1157 type socket apparently won't clear the back of the tailight opening so they used those small lights that are sort of L shaped.
I doubt they make a dual filament bulb in those small type bulbs so I guess that kind of puts the halt to that idea. It might have been a good idea but just not feasible I guess.

LED BULBS for tail lights?????? Would like to know more about just what bulb to buy and do you have to do anything to your rear tail-light wiring? I'm useing the regular 1157, is there a 1157 LED BULB too or what? Sorry if this is a stupid question but what can I say, Im trying to learn and not all my brain cells have left me but at nearly 66 I still forget what I came in here for. Michael :???:

Yeah Michael, there are 1157 LED bulbs. They have two clusters of LEDs. They fit in a regular 1157 type socket. Some people claim these type of LED bulbs are not as bright as the reguar bulbs. They also require a different flasher as the circuit load will not activate the standard flasher. You might try one and compare the brightness.
