It is always a sad day for me when I put the Elky away for the winter. I am always waiting and waiting for spring to come to take it out of storage.
Up here in New England, it has been a long winter and the road crews put down a ton of salt and sand. The roads looked more like the beach than roads.
After a good amount of rain, the sun came out today and the street sweepers came down the street. It took them 5 passes to clean up all the crap in the road.
Was this a signal or what?
Well, I didn't think twice and fired up the Elky. Started right up with a nice rumble from the headers. Went out cruisin. Boy, did I miss it this winter.
I think I'm going have to move some place warmer that doesn't have snow and ice so I can drive the Elky all year.
You southern / western Elky owners are very lucky.

Las Vegas has little rain, a rare occasional snowfall which is never an occasion to use salt on the roadways, and is home to many happy El Camino owners and their rust free cars. We do have some pretty hot summers here, with temperatures as high as 118 degrees, so putting the El Camino under cover is important.
Anymore, using an El Camino as a daily driver, may be counterproductive, if the goal is keep the beast looking good indefinintely.

Just started snowing here. If it gets slick, I always have the fullsize Blazer that is fulltime 4 wheel drive. Gotta love having more then one Chevy sitting in the driveway.http://www.necoa.org/modules/Forums/images/photos/18dcb4a74077934acead6.jpg

What's with this snow, 118 degree summers and too much rain? I can drive my Elky all year long--never snows, never gets hotter than 90 degrees, rains a little bit--two otta three ain't bad.

Glad to hear that your Elky woke up from it's long winter hibernation Jay. I look forward to seeing it at a future get together. Mine is still at the body shop. You know how those back-burner projects are. I think I'll go visit it next week. :-(

Thanks Ernie. I'm sure we will run into each other at a show or a cruise this season. What are you having done to your Elky? Will it be done soon?

Frame on restoration. Disassemble, sandblast body to bare metal, new black and silver SS paint scheme with a front spoiler and a cowl hood. No current estimate for completion.

NOT too much rain, in fact hardly any at all. If you buy an El Camino from Las Vegas, which has been here since new, there should be no rust.
This is a great place to retire, and your Elky will be safe from rust also. also.

Yes Eric, you lucky bastard. I visited 'Vegas last year in July! It was 116 there also. Frigon hot or what?
But, really, there were a ton of nice cars there. I bet it is great place to live and drive classic's.
I'm going back there the end of May. Maybe it won't be so hot this time.
Thanks
