: Does your wife hate it too??!!
Diablo 04-09-2004, 08:42 PM I just got screamed at for cleaning my new tail lights in the bathroom sink. I mean, they WERE filthy but I clean up my mess (more than she does even). I guess it's good she didn't see me with the plastic polish on the new coffee table  .
I already explained to her the great deal I got on them but they just needed a couple hours TLC. Geez, she'll never learn.
Oh well, I guess I could of went down to the new strip club (gentlemens club) they just opened right down the street instead of cleaning the tail lights in the bathroom sink. BTW, we have his and hers sionks and I used mine!
Figured I'd vent a little, besides she's over it and the lights look great!
See Ya,
Alan
2-Elkys 04-09-2004, 08:45 PM Women just don't understand these things!
Just wait until you use the dishwasher for the first time to clean that intake you got off e-bay....Oh boy!
PROSOUTH 04-09-2004, 09:34 PM Yeah I go to go pick up my dishwasher for the shop. Thanks Peter for reminding me.
Be sure to put some RAIN-X on those plastic lens. It really makes them look new and protects them. Jim
Diablo 04-09-2004, 09:39 PM I LOVE that one! I've got a spare intake in the garage (that I'll be pulling off my spare motor in a few weeks to put on since someone trashed the original Quadrajunk and put on a 2bbl :), Edelbrock will be in there soon )
Guess I won't need to use the pressure washer now. Never even thought of the dishwasher. She's learned to live with my antics, we bought our house based on the size garage it has. :)
See ya,
Alan
Wes Turner 04-09-2004, 09:49 PM Oh boy,
Just buying an El Camino "we don't need that, we need many other items for the house" is almost enough to start a civil war. Be brave and hope for the best. Maybe we should start an online support group.

Isn't that what this is?

Well, I hadn't thought that "General BS Topics" is a marital support group, but you have a point there. ;-)

Mrapii 04-09-2004, 11:44 PM What you have to do is enlist your wife into your hobby. For example when I wash my Elky I always let my wife scrub the wheelwells. I tell her how great they look and then she's happy.

Actually....i guess i'm lucky. My Mrs. is hard-core into the cars too...so i hardly ever get any grief for these kind of faux-pahs. :-D
Rob Kozak 04-10-2004, 05:15 AM I get the same crap from my wife about cars, but not the El Camino.
She loves it. Hates my Studebaker.
She actually buys parts for the car for me as gifts. Not just on holidays either. Heck she's the onwe who blew the tranny. "they had me off the line, but i blew by em and then it went," she says.
87ElCamino 04-10-2004, 06:18 AM I just got screamed at for cleaning my new tail lights in the bathroom sink.
As long as your wife didn't see you using her toothbrush to clean them, I'd just shrug it off.
71Sprint 04-10-2004, 06:18 AM It's not my wife that hates mine but my 11 year old Daughter. She always has some snide comment for it. We were all going out one day in mine and she asked me when I was going to get a real car and I told her I will always have an old car and she told me if I get anything older I would have to crank it.
I let her drive mine in a church parking lot yesterday, she did pretty good for a 1st timer. That will keep her quiet for a little while. The wife has a 2001 mustang with a 5 speed and won't let my Daughter near it. I figure turnabout is fair play I drove my 1st vehicle at 10 it was a 67 F-150 and at 11 I drove my cousin's 69 nova SS with a 4-speed. Of course I had my Dad in the jump seat in the truck and had my cousin in the jump seat in his nova.

Diablo 04-10-2004, 06:55 AM My wife doesn't quite hate it too much...yet. How did you guess that about the toothbrush?! 8O
So far my daughter doesn't hate it either. We'll see, she does miss it right now though it took her 3 days to ask where it went. It normally starts out as a crappy old car but when all her friends end up having comments about "that cool old car" she changes her tune. She's now learned whatever my choice is, it's gotta be cool. First time I gave her a ride in the Corvette the remark from her was "That old thing is too loud". A few years later we pulled into the high school parking lot and the crowd formed, after that she was hooked and asks to ride in it all the time. One thing, if you think your car is embarrassing your kid. Maybe it's you. Cut the mullet off.
The main reason my wife has been supportive of this rebuild is I promised to give her my car once this is on the road and presentable. I won't say what kinda ride it is since it's too embarrasing on this board :P She is starting to get to the point where she's saying you need to stop spending on that.
Tip, if the wife tells you to put a "For Sale" sign in the window do what I did with my '67 Mustang. Get a real small index card and make sure you have an unbelievable price on it and mark the price "FIRM". I did that but it backfired, someone with more money than sense saw it and paid it!
Man, that still cracks me up about the toothbrush but I can guarentee at least half of us here have done that.
See Ya,
Alan
84CHOOCHO 04-10-2004, 12:01 PM I'm gonna miss her....
83choochoo 04-10-2004, 05:55 PM My wife is a gear head also, any time im working in the garage my wife is always helping me or cleaning her 75 Kawasaki z1 900 bike. shes a fanatic and realy into working on clasic cars and restoring old motorcycles.
1982 SS 04-11-2004, 08:33 PM I'll take my dad's 65 Riviera into the high school autoshop before school starts and park it in there till i can get to it. I'll catch some flak for driving a Buick. Then I start it. Those dual glasspacks with no crossover behind that nailhead really has a sound. Oh after some WOT they change their tune. Not to say my Camino isn't generally more impressive than the *** crap that normally takes over the shop.
Jims78elky 04-11-2004, 11:28 PM Iam lucky, when i built my garage i installed a full size bathroom in it with a shower and a shop sink, its nice NOT to see wifes "hanging" panty hose, bras, shoes, flowers, poems about birds, sheeesh. My garage bathroom has character, lots of car mags in it,and a few not so car mags, lava soap, and yes i shower with it..lol My home away from home! :P
Topdog 04-18-2004, 08:10 AM I can tell you how I solved that delema!
For her Birthday 2 years ago I bought her what she has Dreamed about for years, A 74 T-Top Corvette!...............but did solve lots of problems!!!
No more hassles on Cars in my house!
Diablo 04-19-2004, 08:02 PM Actually my wife's not too bad. When we were looking for a house a few years ago she let me buy the house around the garage. When I found the perfect garage in our price range we bought.
I haven't squeezed 4 cars in yet but I did 3 cars and a motorcycle and still had tons of room left.
Once I finish building my Cabbi I'll start working on the garage. I need workbenches etc. Still, the guy who built it put some thought into it. It is plumbed for a restroom, just has to be installed (not sure if I'm going to do it.) He even put in a garden hose faucet. 220 for my welder and a power box seperate from the house even though it's attached.
One thing I think I will put in, is a sink. That way I won't be washing parts in the house anymore. :)
Mrapii 04-19-2004, 08:16 PM That garage sounds ideal. I had to build a small shop behind my house only big enough for two cars but I have a small shop area with a workbench, sandblaster, bench grinder, 220v welder etc. It sure beats working in our two car garage.
