I just got a hold of a used engine temp guage off of a 79 elky ss. Iam trying to get it on my 79 elky. How do I go about getting it to work on my engine where do I "plug" it in to? If that makes any since. Please help.

I JUST installed one and worked the first time!!!
My (396/402) engine's manifold has a pipe plug fitting near the the front.
Will post pic if it would help.
More info would help i.e. manifold type, engine size

On your 79, the gauge sensor goes into the head between the #1 and #3 sparkplugs. What does your current gauge cluster look like? Do you currently have idiot lights? Is it the wide sweep type speedo or the round speedo? The temp gauge only works in the cluster with the round speedo that's set up for gauges and not idiot lights.
See if reading this thread helps.

Ok in the car I have idiot lights and a side sweep speedo but the car that I took it off of had the same thing and the guy told me that it worked on his but he is not so smart on engine things so he cant tell me where it was hooked up to so that is what Iam trying to find out.

yeah, i don't think me posting a pic would help in your situation. My engine is out of a 72' camaro.
If you need it pointed out, you taking a pic might help us.
Take it from both sides and on top; that should get you an answer

To the left of the speedo is the gas gauge. To the right is either blank or an optional clock. There isn't a place for a stock temp gauge. Is it an aftermarket gauge? Can you post a picture?

It is an aftermarket gauge but it looks stock and where it was it was on the side where the blank spot is as soon as I figure out how to put pictures on this web site you will see what I have to work with and I will even show you where it was mounted on the other car since I just bought it from the guy. There in no since in rebuilding the car cause the body rot is so bad but its a good parts car

I will try to put up pictures asap as soon as I figure out how the hell to do that.
